Zach Parker vs. Darryll Williams: Vacant British Title - 3 November 2018

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Zach Parker and Darryll Williams will contest the vacant British Super Middleweight title on November 3 at The SSE Hydro in Glasgow.

The undefeated prospects square off for the Lord Lonsdale belt on the undercard of the huge World Boxing Super Series event in Scotland featuring a mouthwatering Season II Quarter-Final double header.

Scottish star Josh Taylor takes on the undefeated American Ryan Martin in the tournament’s Super Lightweight bracket, while Northern Ireland’s WBA Super World Champion Ryan Burnett meets former four-weight World ruler Nonito Donaire in the star-studded bantamweight division.

Parker threatened to steal the show on the undercard of Season I’s Super Middleweight Quarter-Final between Callum Smith and Erik Skoglund at the Echo Arena in Liverpool when the Derbyshire man blasted Luke Blackledge out inside a round.

This performance propelled him from Britain’s small halls to the big stage, earning the 24 year-old a promotional contract with Team Sauerland, and a chance to shine as the ‘reserve fighter’ for WBA Super Champion George Groves’ and Chris Eubank Jr’s sold-out semi-final showdown at the Manchester Arena.

Parker now has the chance to realise a lifelong dream by winning the British title, and has promised ‘fireworks’ for the Glasgow fans.

“Fighting for the British title means a lot to me, my dad always talked about it since I was little and I class it as the best belt out there other than the world titles,” said Parker.

“Williams is a good opponent he’s undefeated and he’s proved himself at English level.

“I think it’s gonna be a good fight. He’s going to come forward and I’m not backing down either. It should make for fireworks in the middle of the ring.

“It feels amazing to be fighting on another World Boxing Super Series show. They’re class to be on. The build up is amazing and I love the way the tournament is set up with the best fighting the best.

“I can’t wait to be fighting in Scotland. I’ve never been there before so that will be a new experience for me. I can’t wait to box in front of the Scottish fans and give them a good fight and show them what I’m all about.”

Williams lived up to his ‘Ferocious’ alias in two fiercely contested English title fights with Jahmaine Smyle last year, and has vowed to drag Parker into a ‘dogfight’ as he looks to capture the coveted British belt.

“Zack Parker has never been in a dogfight and that is what this will be,” said Williams. “He better be ready!”

Fans at The SSE Hydro in Glasgow will be treated to a spectacular double header featuring two Quarter-Final contests as Scottish Super Lightweight star Josh Taylor takes on the undefeated American Ryan Martin, and Northern Ireland’s WBA World Champion Ryan Burnett meets former four-weight World Champion Nonito Donaire in one of Season II’s Bantamweight contests. Undercard details will be announced in the coming days.

Another cracking British title fight between 2 unbeatens, should be a good scrap, Parker's looked good so far, destroyed Blackledge in a round and Williams showed a lot of mettle to come out on top both times against Smyle, they were hard fights and could prove the difference here, I'm struggling to pick a winner, I'm edging towards Williams to win a close one

I’m going the other way. Parker Points.
I think he looks a good talent. He needs to stick to his boxing though. A tear-up is what Williams will want.

I had it 114-114 even, never thought Williams was nearly as effective as commentary made out, no doubt the left arm of Parker going was a factor, you seen in the first round or 2 Parker showing his class, the arm going so early was a choker, especially as Williams is so aggressive he never gave Parker any time to think about what he was doing, Parker had to fight southpaw the rest of the fight and just jab and move and I thought he done a great job of making Williams miss and even though he had a tough spell as Williams kept pressing I thought Parker composed himself down the stretch and done a great job of outboxing Williams one handed

You can see Williams try to emulate Tyson with the upper body movement and bursting into his attacks but he's a bit crude, comes forward, gets in range but doesn't always let his hands go, never enjoyed the fight, Parker's injury spoiled it

Thought Williams won by several rounds, probably 8-4.

I had it 7-5 for Williams, I could live with a draw, but a Parker win is a stretch. I like Loughlin, but his card was a joke.

Full credit to Parker for lasting 12 with one arm, and he was clearly the more skilled of the two.

Sometimes I think if a fighter overcomes adversity the judges give them a couple 'bonus' points.

Burns vs Beltram and Algeri vs Provodnikov both good examples.

Corruption pure and simple but nothing will be done about it.

Williams won that fight no arguments. He may not get a look in again for fights again now, it's disgusting.

Yeh not really fair that. Parker has a good promoter behind him. A loss wouldn’t have affected him here. We all know he was one armed.

....it's worse here than it was in Germany years ago, the sport is so bent, fighters work their whole lives and then someone who wants to keep getting work of the big promoters shafts them, it's disgusting

I was front row for this and Williams hammered him. Parker’s punches had zero effect. Nobody thought it was even close. Wtf is Loughlin all about his card was a disgrace.

Loughlin usually one of the safest refs/judges around, rarely involved in controversy but that's a few shocking performances he's had lately

It wasn’t close for me either. Wide UD for Williams. If he had won no doubt Parker would have got the rematch for his injury excuse.
