Mayweather vs Nasukawa

Post by punchoutsb »

Supposedly confirmed for Rizin 14 in Saitama. Being reported all over, but here's a quick link for verification purposes:

https://www.cbssports.com/boxing/news/f ... years-eve/

I'm positive there will be some sort of custom rule set involved, but it hasn't been reported on yet. For those who don't know Nasukawa is a great young kickboxer who is undefeated and the current champion in Rizin, which is a Japanese MMA/Kickboxing org.

I can't imagine it will be anything other than essentially boxing...either a heavily edited kickboxing match or a standup only "MMA" match. I just can't see Floyd agreeing to anything that would put him outside him comfort zone.

Agree. Watched some videos of this kid & he doesn't suck at all. He's 27-0 in kickboxing. 4-0 in MMA. Floyd don't wanna fight this kid in anything other than boxing.

Although he is 20lbs lighter which is kinda weird & makes me think Rizin might want Floyd to accept some non-boxing skill set rules for this fight. Be sorta messed up to see Floyd boxing a kid half his age & 20lbs lighter.

I wouldn't be surprised if they can't come to a agreement on the rules & the fight gets canceled.

Mayweather won't fight within any rules, except boxing ones. He's not going to get beaten up for 0-1 in some other sport. Furthermore this choice of an opponent doesn't seem to be too money-generating.

This is a shite fight that I don't want to pay to watch, so I'll probably just view a replay of it on YouTube a day or so later.

Win or lose, this is a meaningless fight for Mayweather and I've usually got far better things to do on New Years Eve than to watch circus events.

That being said, I'm sincerely interested to know how much Money May will be earning to share the ring with a Japanese kickboxer that is probably only considered a big name in his hometown (or at best, homeland).

Is this the big Japanese event that Mayweather promised he would partake in before any Pacquiao rematch?

It would be just 7 weeks away and apparently no legit agreement reached.

Probably won't happen, unless it's strictly boxing and more of an "exhibition" contest rather than a true fight.

The rumour about Mayweather’s return to action became public knowledge during mid-September, whereby it was claimed that Floyd would engage in a warm-up bout staged in Tokyo (Japan) in December prior to engaging in a rematch against Manny Pacquiao in 2019.

On the 2nd October, I mentioned another rumour relating Manny Pacquiao allegedly signing a two-fight deal with Al Haymon to face Adrien Broner in January, prior to engaging in a summer 2019 match-up against Floyd Mayweather.

I reported both of these rumours to this forum the instant they were being circulated by various social media platforms.

More than a month later and it seems that both rumours have come to fruition, which strongly-suggests that Floyd and Manny began planning their next outings more than three months prior to their scheduled fight dates.

As much as I loathe the prospect of this contest, I am convinced that Floyd Mayweather will face Tenshin Nasukawa in December.

Last night an MMA “reporter” tweeted that his unnamed source believes this will be a special rules three round exhibition. I’m sure it will come off, but it won’t be what MMA fans have been hoping for.

I foresee a boxing exhibition to showcase Nasukawa in the same ring with Floyd with both men agreeing to go easy.

I haven’t got a clue if the fight will be contested as either a kickboxing event or follow traditional boxing rules, but I have to agree with you about the expectation will be that both men will go easy on each other.

I suspect the sole purpose for this exhibition (or whatever title they wish to assign to this friendly sparring session) will be for TMT to help promote RIZIN to a global audience.

It wouldn’t surprise me to see Mayweather receiving a relatively small payday for the Nasukawa bout, but to be compensated in other ways, such as receiving a percentage stake in RIZIN or perhaps TMT Promotions being awarded the US TV rights for its MMA events. Floyd’s actual payday for this bout probably won’t be disclosed.

Lots of sub stories to this

Mayweather is looking to work a number of business interests in Japan, this is a great platform for him

Rizin need to raise their profile, to keep ONE from stealing their best guys, this puts them on an international platform

Tenshin has been sparring with world class boxers in recent months, has no immediate interest in professional boxing, but a modified punch rule set would allow him experience

Fuji TV need something BIG to go against TBS and their ratings phenom of Kyokugen, with Ioka vs Nietes being shown live

FMJ is going to end up like Riddick Bowe did a few years ago when he tried his hand at Muay Thai; he's going to get owned & embarrassed.

You can't say that, because we don't know the rules being contested and unlike Riddick Bowe, Mayweather lives the life of an athlete, whilst clearly not suffering from any form of pugilistic dementia.

Like him or loathe him, it's abundantly clear for anyone to see that Floyd's far too clever to put himself in an unwinnable situation.

You make an excellent point to be fair.

I was assuming that FMJ was just going to take on an MMA fighter with straight up MMA rules, but knowing FMJ, there will be caveats & clauses.

We shall have to wait & see. :salut:

If you’re still waiting on Floyd fights you’re doing it wrong. Saitama is the city by the way.

boxing with elbows and clinches using mma gloves is as far as i could see it going. no way mayweather signs up for kicks, knees, takedowns or submissions. the big question is what are they paying him, cause this fight has litraly zero upside, he could pick winnable boxing fights for 100m each, or pacman for more, yet he still chose this. must be offered like a lot of money or a massive share in the company.
