Has Buffer passed his sell by date
Re: Has Buffer passed his sell by date
Jimmy Lennon jnr is the #1 fella. Diamante is decent.
Re: Has Buffer passed his sell by date
prime buffer over lennon for me, lennon just a bit flat and low energy imo

Travelling the world, staying in great hotels and watching boxing from ringside
It's money for old rope too - all you gotta do to be 'good' is speak clearly. Best of all, after a few years, you become "part of the big-fight atmosphere" and can charge enormous fees.![]()
Quite how Mark Burdiss got a gig, I'll never know![]()

It's better than the bloke in the UFC who's 'catchphrase' is "IIIIIIIIIIIIIT'S TIME!!!" That makes me want to punch my illegal stream in. How lacking in imagination do you have to be to come up with that? It's so rubbish it's like nails on a blackboard.Noxy wrote: ↑09 Nov 2018, 12:55I used to love - let’s get ready to rumble - but that was back in the early 90s. That boat‘s long gone nowjameswilson wrote: ↑09 Nov 2018, 11:52 There is one thing about hearing ‘let’s ft ready to rumble’ or ‘it’s showtime.’
From Buffer or Lennon Jr before a fight.
If I was a promoter I’m not sure I’d be willing to do the money on it that he’s rumoured to earn tho.

Not really. announcerphil, came on here briefly. Does boxing, RL, darts, the lot. Started off at York Knights RL. I know him from him doing local boxing shows.Noxy wrote: ↑10 Nov 2018, 04:51You know a lot of people Mick.mickey1975 wrote: ↑09 Nov 2018, 16:04A friend of mine does it. Re: Has Buffer passed his sell by date
Diamante knows how to announce properly, announcing the surname of the boxer twice is the old school way, Buffer's just a celebrity.
Re: Has Buffer passed his sell by date
hearing the last name twice really does nothing for me, and its always seemed kinda akward

Re: Has Buffer passed his sell by date
Double surname thing goes way back to the 20’s when the crowds were huge and the PA system was just poor speakers on poles dotted around the place. It was simply a way of ensuring the whole crowd caught the name.
There has been no need for a long time with the advance in audio quality.
It’s been resurrected over the years by a few announcers & Diamante is just the latest one to do it. Good voice, dreadful look
Back to the point, yes, Buffer making more & more simple mistakes. I’m a big fan though, for me, he’s not finished yet.
Look at the Joshua Povetkin final presser, Buffer opened with a monologue about heavyweight boxing, no notes and it was class.
https://youtu.be/UT-f4zLQyTA
Don’t think any one announcer will take his place. Jimmy Lennon is the obvious choice and there are a few others that are capable on the world stage, but not that many. Diamanté is one, Joe Martinez, Lupe Contreras, U.K. has Craig Stephen but I doubt if any of them except Jimmy will be as globally recognised as Michael Buffer.

Re: Has Buffer passed his sell by date
Anyone remember the Paul Smith fight where the announcer had a complete brain fart and introduced him as “ Paul! Gwerrrrrrrrr!! “

Re: Has Buffer passed his sell by date
Never understood the need to import ring announcers. Seems an unnecessary extravagance to me and a slap in the face to MCs in the UK.

Re: Has Buffer passed his sell by date
Diamante is a shocker, looks terrible and the double surname thing translates terribly to tv.
Buffer still the man.
Makes no difference what Buffer sounds lkke anymore cause when you're there you can't hear him say 'let's get ready to rumble' cause every man and his dog screams it at the top of their voices anyway!

Re: Has Buffer passed his sell by date
i think diamantes voice is okay. he pronounces well, doesnt get his words fumbled, etc. i actually dont mind him at all overall (he does look a shocker though
)
but buff to me is the king. best voice and just great atmosphere builder. he is making more mistakes now, but at his best he cant be beat for me

Yeah what's that about repeating shit.KiwiRider wrote: ↑09 Nov 2018, 15:01 It's looking like Eddie is phasing in dread head. He's OK. I don't like announcers who repeat the last name though. Gets on my tits.
Buffy is past it. He must still like doing it because he doesn't need the money. He copyrighted "Let's get ready to rumble" and according to wiki, it's made him many millions alone.
One thing you have to give Buffy, he does pronounce the fighters names well. And he learned Spanish.
Re: Has Buffer passed his sell by date
it just seems akward to me, and the 2nd announcing of the name is usually relatively limp and just takes away from the original annoucment imo

No, it was the Prize fighter growler. The guy who does the darts and has had his teeth done so that he now looks like a stoned rabbit.
In the same fight he totally forgot to.announce TonybDodson his opponent. The growl for Smith was legendary.
I had it on a look that someone on here sent me. I used to watch it with my youngest daughter when I wanted cheering up. She loved it.

Re: Has Buffer passed his sell by date
John McDonald the man with the growl. Craig Stephens took over from him and Diamonte over from Stephens, for Matchroom anyway
Re: Has Buffer passed his sell by date
They should get Russ Bray. The best announcer of 180 in history. Has a bit of a look, a bit of gangsta about him.
