Artem Cheboterev vs Javier Maciel

Post by handsofstone »

This Saturday on boxantion we've got this card from Russia, 10 round Middleweight fight between local amateur standout Cheboterev(5-0,4ko) he's a former European Gold medallist, World Bronze and fought at the Rio Olympics, the only guy to have taken him the distance in the pros is Nuhu Lawal who gave Martin Murray all he could handle a couple of years back

Looks a step up here against experienced Argentinian Maciel who's been around the block, lost a decision in a world title fight against Pirog 7 years ago, I remember him being quite unlucky not to get the nod against Brian Rose over here a few years back, he also got stopped in 3 by Soro and is coming off a points loss to Monroe Jr

Should be a good gauge to see how good Cheboterev is in only his 6th fight, Maciel is rugged as fvck he'll make Cheboterev work for the win

Cheboterev wins a wide UD, I had it 98-93 but I wasn't bowled over to be fair, I know Maciel is an experienced customer and been the distance with some big punchers but I expected someone of Cheboterev's pedigree to deal with him with ease amd I suppose he did as far as the scores were concerned but he wasn't miles ahead in class, he started off qucker, some nice jabs and straight rights but after that he became a bit predictable and Maciel was able to block and parry most of his work

I thought Maciel was starting to show a bit more belief in the 7th/8th and landed some nice shots but Cheboterev come back into in the last couple and had Maciel backing up, he never looked like stopping him though, good win for Cheboterev at this stage but he looks nothing special
