Maxim Vlasov deserves a world title shot

Post by chuck9788 »

Russian cruiserweight Maxim Vlasov (42-2, 25 KO's) is currently ranked #1 WBO and #2 by both the WBC and WBA.

What more must he do? At the very least he's earned a chance to face Beibut Shumenov.

I think they also didn't let him join the WBSS. Not sure about it, though, because someone from another forum posted the Russian transcript. Anyways, Bellew also deserves a shot at Usyk and Briedis deserves a rematch. CW is just too deep at the moment to where everyone will get their chance at Usyk if he does end up moving on to HW.

Goulamirian, Papin, Egorov, and Tabiti coming up as well.

I don't see him going to far in the division … looking at his losses at the lower weights to Chilemba and Gonzalez.. doesn't give me much hope for him to secure a good win at the top

Well give it a bit. 4 of the world's titles were contested for less than a month ago; and they've been tied-up in a tournament for a while.

Also, it's not as though Vlasov beat someone particularly good, giving him some sort of mandate to contest for a title.

If you saw those fights, Vlasov gave a respectable performance. He almost stopped Chilemba in their fight, and he gave Gonzalez the toughest fight of his career.

hed be a reasonable title challenger, but he lacks the type of win over a standout name to really force himself into a shot and make himself someone usyk needs to fight

also, id bet usyk vacates before vlasov gets a shot, vlas could end up contesting a vacant title

This is a fabulous weight-class which would never have come into existence if many boxing people/fans had got their own way back in the eighties.

I'm just saying.

Surely deserves a world title shot though

TBF, the Chilemba fight was ages ago.

it was a long time ago (hes also still the only guy to drop chilemba multiple times and had him hurt worse then anyone did),

i think as importantly as that i wonder what the hell he was doing at around 168 for so many fights. he mustve been cutting a ton. he fought ramirez at 170 then moved straight to 200, which is the biggest division jump in boxing aside from going to hw. hes pretty solid at 200 as well.

but when a guy becomes undisputed champ like usyk did, you have to be looking at a huge vacation of titles being likely. i think theres a good chance usyk if he beats bellew moves to hw, and we see vlasov fight for an open belt

I saw the Chilemba fight and was not impressed though he came on strong at the end... I respect all fighters so mean no disrespect,, but with the champs we have at 200 right now i do not see a winning title fight in his future.. but am always rooting for the underdog unless I really like the champ.. .more will be revealed

He does, but with the unified champion, he will not get it any time soon.

He get some solid wins in recent years. Match him against Lebedev, winner can get title shot.

I gotta eat my crow! Vlasov did get the WBO title shot. But he wasn't as competitive as I thought he'd be.

In a bout for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) interim cruiserweight title, former world champion Krzysztof Glowacki (31-1, 19 KOs) scored a twelve round unanimous decision over Maksim Vlasov (44-3, 25 KOs) on Saturday night at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago. Glowacki staggered Vlasov in round one, dropped Vlasov in round three and landed the harder shots all night. Scores were 118-110, 117-110, 115-112.-fightnews,com

tbf, his resume was decent b-level-ish going into the fight, he hardly wouldve been a crap title challenger in this age

he was very game and tried hard all night, but glowacki just too sharp and quick. i had it 118-109 but vlasov put in a much better fight then that suggests. a lot of the rounds were decent action but glowacki just had that extra speed and accuracy to be winning them. he also managed to rock vlasov a few times, although funny enough on the knockdown vlasov wasnt hurt at all and it really shouldnt have been called

glowacki i think put in the best performance of the quarterfinal cw wbss winners for this year. he has a pretty respectable record with a ko over long reinging huck, ud over cunningam, and now the wide win over probably lower top 10 vlasov.

Problem with Vlasov is that he doesn’t have a third or fourth gear. Just not violent enough to go for the kill or launch an all out attack
