dlh didn't fight tszyu, tszyu went and got himself knocked out by vince phillips though i reckon dlh would ahve moved up for whitaker and quartey anywayjamesmcdonnell wrote:I look at a lot of his more recent fights as cash in jobs. Vargas might have been bigger, but he had documented thyroid problems, and a serious back injury. For me his defining fights, the ones which made him a star were the first fight with Mosley, Quartey, Tszyu, Chavez, Carr, Camacho and Whittaker.
Although he's fought a lot of his late career at Welter and above, the quality of those fights hasn't been the same, and he hasn't fought as often. Since 2000, he has only fought 8 times, less than twice a year. Between 1995 and 2000, he fought 16 times and cemented his place as a sports megastar and multiple champ.
DLH is now in the same position as Ray Leonard was in his late career, cherry picking fights, whereas earlier he was winning and defending belts successfully. Like Leonard he became fixated with weight hopping and like Leonard if he hang on that bit too long, he's going to get a slap, and Mayweather might just be the man to do it. I think Oscar knows that, and may well find a way to negotiate his way out of that one.
i don't think dlh - mayweather ever happens. dlh said he won't work with anone except mayweather sr and mayweather sr has said he won't train someone to KO his own son. so unless dlh and floyd senior have a nasty faling out i doubt it ever happens - considering it's a risky fight for an older dlh & that he can make a bomb fighting older faded men like rematches with quartey, vargas, mosley III on top of that
