I may well be utterly, horribly wrong about this, but I think Gavin will perform better than people on this thread are expecting. I saw him fight Kevin McCauley in his warm-up six-rounder, and rather than just going through the motions, he used it to practice a heavy body attack and worked pretty intensely throughout. McCauley was cut, marked up and had to work hard to get through the six. I appreciate McCauley is nowhere near Lejarraga's level, but Frankie looked motivated and as though the approach was part of his planned preparation - it was nothing like the dull warm-up 10-rounders that he sometimes had on Sky. Not saying he will win, particularly away from home, but it's not impossible, and there are also a lot of unknowns about Lejarraga.

Does anyone know when the weigh-in is/was, and what the weights were, if it has already happened?

Putting in a convincing performance against the 1859th best boxer of 1859 boxers and getting a points win is no indication of a serious threat to the 14th (and still on his way up) best Welter in the world who has shown himself to be a bit of a destroyer.
I have no ill will against Frankie Gavin but he has shown an enormous lack of discipline since before he even turned pro and even if he has done everything right THIS TIME, that isn't enough, he would need to have the physicality and engine that a careers worth of dedication would have provided.

Lee - I know, and I take your points (although I would say that McCauley is a lot better than his ranking when he is forced to fight, and was an Area champion). I am an eternal optimist, unfortunately - was a very big fan of Kirkland Laing throughout his career, and have always had a soft spot for underachieving talents. I was really hoping Frankie was going to get this one right, but the weights are not promising. Looks like he has not managed to get close and has decided simply not to try to make it.

Well.... At the low end the points system makes HUUUUUGE variations in real world positions so really Dan Sabastonelli at 951 is really something like co 150th with dozens of other people

“I had a disagreement with my trainer that resulted in him deciding against coming out here (to Spain) with me.

It was a rough crossing too and that meant I couldn’t train properly. I arrived yesterday but I just couldn’t shift the weight needed safely."
