Dave Allen - fulltime?
Re: Dave Allen - fulltime?
I think he is moonlighting at a bakery. Complaints from local pig farmers have been lodged that the end of day leftover skip has been a bit light on pies lately.

Is this really how hard you have trained Dave?
Come on...

Re: Dave Allen - fulltime?
It’s not like there’s a real special talent underneath that extra layer of blubber though, and that it’s his conditioning that’s holding him back.
He’s better than area level yet not good enough to be British champ imo. He couldn’t manage commonwealth status when given all the advantages and a very beatable opponent. A motivated Sexton would beat him.
No shame in any of that by the way, all great achievements. Perspective is needed with Allen though.
He’s doing a good job of getting his name out there though which means more dough so fair play. What’s going to hold him back is what happens when the bell rings and there’s someone who can box/fight a bit in the other corner.

Re: Dave Allen - fulltime?
seems english level
ya, the thomas loss gives good perspective. thomas is even more fragile then david price.

Re: Dave Allen - fulltime?
He was weighing 20lbs lighter against Whyte. He then ballooned up for a fight against Dave Howe then since then has been around 255-260.
He clearly trained hard for the second fight vs Thomas and was sub 240 again. I think 235-240 is fine for him.

Thought Dave was awfully close to being beat by that argie last night.
He really needs to go on a long break, would be mad to throw him back in there next month...

Re: Dave Allen - fulltime?
Shame that he isnt taking this advantage of this ridiculously good platform he has.
I thought he looked very poor last night, he said it himself but it means nothing really, his conditioning was nowhere near where it should be.

Re: Dave Allen - fulltime?
Some fighters live the life and quite a few get by not doing it , but it must be double hard for those that chose not to.
There have been some great champions over the years that blow up Inbetween fights but the work they put in must affect the longevity of their careers .
Also being heavyweight obviously means no weight making so I think the likes of Allen feel they can get away with cutting corners .
I really admire his honesty post fight but only he can put the work in .
Re: Dave Allen - fulltime?
another fight that really shows his level tbh, this opponent was a traditional knockover job type of opponent and yet he gets into a gruelling slug fest with him. allen was 1/50 over this guy i think
some say there confident hed beat price because he could last that long, but tbh im not sure if allens on that level even if he can make it rounds vs long tall dave. lenroy thomas is even more fragile then price imo and he beat allen over 12. and everyone who beat price was way better then allen.
price does have a 10 round decision win, i think he could do the same vs allend

Dubois and Gorman both stop Allen inside three rounds. The casuals are lapping up Allen, he should be grasping the opportunity with both hands.

Re: Dave Allen - fulltime?
His conditioning needs to be much better. It's alright going in there slugging it out and saying he loved it, and no one has to worry about him.
The point remains If he has title ambition, which he says he has. Then he needs to get into a team that aren't yes men. It's clear he does wtf he wants in camp.

Re: Dave Allen - fulltime?
I disagree, Allen is better than Sexton. That Argy was better than people realize and he forced Allen into a ferocious pace that few HWs outwith world level could sustain. It was actually mire to do with poor ring IQ than conditioning - but in fairness to Allen he recognised that - took a round off then finished his opponent with a 2nd wind.lillywhite14 wrote: ↑10 Nov 2018, 06:30 It’s not like there’s a real special talent underneath that extra layer of blubber though, and that it’s his conditioning that’s holding him back.

Come on mate you don't mean that. More to do with ring IQ than conditioning, it was hardly a Hearns Hagler pace. His conditioning last night was a joke he didn't take no rounds off he was blowing out of his arse and was lucky he got the job done when he didRKY wrote: ↑12 Nov 2018, 05:07I disagree, Allen is better than Sexton. Re: Dave Allen - fulltime?
I can't remember the exact rounds but it looked to me like Allen held back in r6 then poured it on in r7. The shot that finished it and broke the argy lads nose was a peach. I watched Bracamontes before the fight because I bet on this match - he comes out swinging for the fences in round 1 clearly setting a pace he has no intention of maintaining. I bet under 2.5 rounds. Allen got drawn into his slugfest and when neither man could get the other out they were both visibly gassed by r3.smiling assassin wrote: ↑12 Nov 2018, 05:12Come on mate you don't mean that. I'm not saying Allen is well conditioned, but he's went long fights before (distance with Whyte i think, and 8 rounds with Ortiz iirc) - he got sucked into a shootout on Saturday imo & it made him look worse than he is.

Re: Dave Allen - fulltime?
Allen has got good head movement which he showed in the first but his timing was shit the other night the other mush was wide open for the counters Allen just couldn't pull the trigger. He's gone longer in other fights because he was in better shape than last night. If he fought Whyte or Ortiz in that shape he would of been stopped in rounds 3-4RKY wrote: ↑12 Nov 2018, 05:18I can't remember the exact rounds but it looked to me like Allen held back in r6 then poured it on in r7. Re: Dave Allen - fulltime?
He's had 6 fights since march - he's hardly even had a chance to blow up between fights. Even without a full camp he's surely just been doing enough training to tick over - by the looks of him on Saturday night he's hardly been to the gym since his last fight. Any 26 year old shouldn't be walking around in that shape, never mind one who's a pro fighter.
He knows it at least.

Re: Dave Allen - fulltime?
I think it's clear that he thought this fight would be a walkover. He even mentioned before that he would be surprised if it would go longer than a round. A bit naive i think.
I think he should avoid trying to get onto the Whyte/Chisora card, spend some time doing serious strength and conditioning training, then take some easy-ish regional fights early next year and aim to get on the AJ April card against Browne (for £), Price (for British), or Carman (for Commonwealth).
