his main achievements are:

-he was trainer of Polish Boxing Olympic team at Seoul 1988 and 4 of his fighters won bronze medals: Andrzej Gołota, Henryk Petrich, Jan Dydak, Janusz Zarenkiewicz (from that time until today Poland won only one medal more)
-he was the trainer of LHW and CW Tomasz Adamek
-he trained with EBU champion Mateusz Masternak
-trainer of boxing section of Legia Warszawa, 5x champions of Poland during Gmitruk's cadency, trained olympic medalists like Krzysztof Kosedowski and Kazimierz Szczerba
-He also trained Mariusz Wach, Piotr Wilczewski (EBU SMW champion) among others
-At amateurs at some point he worked also with Krzysztof Włodarczyk and Dariusz Michalczewski
-His fighters won multiple medals at world and european championships.

at one or another point he trained with pro boxers like: Grzegorz Proksa, Michał Cieślak, Michał Syrowatka, Ewa Piątkowska (currently female world champion), Maciej Zegan, Mariusz Cendrowski, Dariusz Sęk, Łukasz Wierzbicki, Patryk Szymański, Maciej Miszkiń, Norbert Dąbrowski, Ukrainian Serhiy Dzinziruk...

he also trained Norway's boxing national team (Ole Klemetsen reached to the quarterfinals at 1992 olympics + won medals at EC and WC)

charismatic personality and fantastic trainer. great tactic and psychologist, motivator. his fighters usually had very good jab and footwork.

he started his work as boxing trainer in 1975

his current fighters were Maciej Sulęcki, Artur Szpilka, Izuagbe Ugonoh. he was also a promoter and commentator as well.

It's a devastating info for me

Sulęcki&Gmitruk had potential to be at the top of MW division..

yesterday was the anniversary of death of his son

recently he worked as trainer, commentator, tv expert, had a very ill wife (she's almost blind), he himself had serious health issues with heart, also he had 5 years old daughter

it's a knockdown for Polish boxing

He was the last coach of the Polish school of Boxing and Tomasz Adamek (at LHW and CW) was the last great representant of this school, his attributes and style proves that, he was 100% Polish school of Boxing & Gmitruk product. some era in Polish boxing ends now. the future doesn't looks good. Andrew Golota that fought Bowe was product of this school of boxing as well, and to some degree, Dariusz Michalczewski was too.

He's the Emmanuel Steward of Polish Boxing.

Fun and interesting fact about him: He probably was the only person in boxing history that was promoter/organizator, tv commentator and trainer in fighters corner at the same event. He literally was commenting on tv during rounds and then during the break he was at boxer's corner.

Polish trainer Andrzej Gmitruk, 67, dies in a fire

Andrzej Gmitruk, a legendary trainer of the Polish Olympic team and top Polish professional boxers, passed away at night at his home, said the Volunteer Fire Brigade from Długa Kościelna.

Andrzej GmitrukAndrzej Gmitruk

"Today's morning, November 20, saw the tragic event in Hipolitów, at 4 am our unit was dispatched to fire in a detached house, and one of the best boxing trainers died in a fire. The Voluntary Fire Brigade in Długa Kościelna expresses the most sincere condolences to the family and loved ones." we stated in the message.

To confirm the tragic information, Artur Szpilka among others waited from the morning, whose on November 10th Gmitruk led to victory over Mariusz Wach. “Unfortunately, this is true. This is terrible!” Szpila commented on reports.

“He burnt. The rest of the family survived. I heard from firefighters that when they arrived, the coach was dead”, - said on Twitter Kamil Wolnicki, journalist of Przegląd Sportowy.

“The house did not burn, only the plastic table was lit. The cause of death - for the moment - is not fixed. This is my information from the investigators who were there. Rather, it is not related to the fire. This is the preliminary information - for example,” handed in an interview with Onet.pl, an aspirant Marcin Zagórski, a press officer of the Poviat Police Commander in Mińsk Mazowiecki.

The reason of his death was related to his cardiac problems, the fire was probably just a coincidence or just this stressful situation caused it. So unbelievable, like 15 hours before he trained on gym with Izu Ugonoh

He was from Polish school of boxing but he was very innovative and was still learning until his last days. Already in the 80s he was using the english-language terminology (it was very uncommon back then), not that long time ago he was in Cuba to attend the boxing trainings of their national team, he wanted to learn something from them and then use it in practice.

Polish boxing fans already raised +16.000$ for his almost completely blind wife and 5 years old daughter. i hope it will be at least twice as much.
