Is John Fury back peddling about Tyson Fury's chances against Wilder?

Post by Controversial »

Anyone seen Kugan's latest interview with John Fury? He starts off saying it's a 50/50 fight but would have been 80/20 in Furys favour had he been better prepared. He says Tyson should win but he wouldn't have taken the fight if it were his choice. He's concerned that Tyson isn't ready, he's only had two poor warmup opponents and only at 50% of his best. He reckons he should have had more fights first. Said his trainer Ben is good but inexperienced (kind of suggests he doesn't think he's good enough yet) and Tyson should have fought Bellew, then Whyte, then a rematch with Chisora and finally AJ and ignored Wilder.

Doesn't come across as brimming with confidence.

47 year old Ortiz

He said it was 50/50 but he’s more confident than that fury’s gonna win it appears.

He‘s just being honest. No-one expected him to go for Wilder so soon.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement. I think he knows he's shot & will get laid out.

He doesn’t come across as being particularly confident, it’s like he’s getting the excuses out early.

i think its a perfectly good point about tyson being more prepared if hed had a more gradual comeback route, wont have been in vs a live body in 3 years and i wonder if too much time was spent on losing weight vs boxing skill

dont think fury wouldve ever beat wilder tbh, but imo fury hasnt gone about things in a way to maximize his chances...too rushed

I do agree a lot with what John said to be fare, and there is an outside chance a 50% Tyson nicks the fight but i'm not sure his body holds up for 12 tough rounds. I do make Wilder the favourite but I would not count Tyson out, very clever fighter if his body holds up. Also, its one thing sparring and losing weight but even Tyson does not know how his body will hold after 5 intense world championship rounds.

So Tyson has obviously gone against his dads advice.

Don't often agree with him, but he's right.

Tyson was out for too long with some serious issues. Those first two comeback fights were pointless.

Fair play to Tyson for shifting the weight which many doubted, but surely still a long way off being fighting fit to step in with one of the division's best.

So close to the fight, it's a slight breach of the ultimate confidence Fury's camp has been projecting. Maybe John was just in a mood to be very candid.

Fwank has repeatedly said that his own confidence (that it's not too soon) comes from Tyson's own self-confidence in the job. Seems a bit strange to keep saying that, perhaps Fwank has to compensate for changing his tune from the "slowly slowly" mantra of earlier in the year.

Yes seems an odd thing for his dad to say at this late stage, I can't see what it would achieve other than pissing his son off.

I always enjoy listening to John Fury. If you read about his shenanigans and hadn't heard him speak or know who he was you'd be well put off but he comes across a decent enough guy (I know the guy who's eye he stole won't agree  )...... Nobodies perfect

He said that he was "99 and Three-Quarters" sure that Tyson would beat Wilder. The remaining quarter he said was Wilder's chances--- and only because Tyson's jumped almost off the bat to fight for a title.

Back pedaling? Not in the least.

I don't think he's back peddling, but he does sound like A man who has had his nose put out of joint.

Pretty sure he said if it had been post wlad then he'd 99% but now it's alot closer because of the layoff and the shit fights since.

Lets be honest, if your son is fighting and its Seferi or Pianeta, you are not going to be very worried, they were hand-picked to lose and knew their role, and Tyson could handle those kind of opponents in his sleep. If your son was fighting Wilder next week, you would be concerned. If AJ was fighting Wilder next week, Eddie and the rest would be concerned. Nothing wrong with being concerned but given Tyson's previous mental issues I don't think it is a good idea to show any cracks in the lead up to the fight - publicly I mean. Your son needs your unswerving backing, support and belief. You can hold views privately that its too soon, but on a public level it should be 100% utter belief.

I think you’re massively mistaken. This isn’t WWE. I genuinely think the reality of the danger has dawned on John Fury. I see a genuinely concerned father.

I personally think Fury is in far too deep and is at real risk of being brutally demolished. This fight will in no way resemble the fiddle fest against Wlad. Wilder is a vicious man with devastating power. He is supremely fit and in excellent condition. The same can’t be said of Fury.

Wilder is an Olympic medalist and not just some big punching fool. His heart, desire and durability are evident after he battled through against Ortiz.

If Fury wins then i will consider this to be a monumental achievement. I wish the lad all the luck and I really hope he wins.
