Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Alfredo Angulo - OFF
Former middleweight titlist Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is returning to the ring.
The son of Mexican legend and Hall of Famer Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. will face Mexican countryman Alfredo Angulo on Dec. 1 on the undercard of the heavyweight world title fight between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Showtime announced on Friday.
However, the scheduled 10-round super middleweight fight will not be part of the four-fight Showtime PPV event. Instead, Chavez-Angulo will be part of a split-site doubleheader that will air on Showtime and for free on the network's YouTube and Facebook platforms beginning at 6:45 p.m. ET as a lead-in to the pay-per-view at 9 p.m. ET.
The "Countdown Live" program on Showtime will also include the long-scheduled fight between light heavyweight world champion Adonis Stevenson and interim titlist Oleksandr Gvozdyk, which will open the broadcast from the Videotron Centre in Quebec City, Canada.
Chavez (50-3-1, 32 KOs), 32, has not been in the ring since giving virtually no effort in a shutout loss to Mexican rival Canelo Alvarez in their heavily hyped showdown on May 6, 2017, in Las Vegas.
The fight with the long-faded Angulo (24-7, 20 KOs), 36, who was at his best as a junior middleweight, has long been discussed for various dates and cards until being finalized for Dec. 1.

Wow, Angulo is horrifically past prime. Would've been a great fight prior to Canelo/Angulo, but at this point, Angulo just takes a beating.

I take it that Chavez-Martinez fight has been put in hold for a while.

Junior will draw several Mexican PPV buyers.
It's a good call putting him on the card

This would've been an interesting fight in 2011. Now it's a... marginally interesting crossroads fight.

I have to admit that this is the best fight on the schedule so far to me. I absolutely love this fight. Someone may die but we’re not going to the cards. I still think Fury’s backing out of the fight so this is the best one on the books now boys. You like apples?

Re: Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Alfredo Angulo - December 1, 2018
Chavez vs. Angulo is a doubt.
According to multiple sources in Mexico, there is a serious possibility that Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will not return as planned this coming Saturday night.
Sources indicate that Chavez Jr. has not complied with the necessary medical exam requirements that are necessary to get licensed for the fight.
Angulo has been training with veteran coach Abel Sanchez in Big Bear, California.
This would be Angulo's first fight (24-7, 20 Ko's) since he lost a close battle with former world champion Sergio Mora in April of this year, in what was the Mexican boxer's debut in the super middleweight division.
A few days ago, Chavez Jr. admitted in a revealing interview that he went to rehab to tackle a problem with substance abuse.
Chavez Jr. had been training first in Jalisco and then in California with Luis Cornejo, Eduardo Montiel and his uncle, Rodolfo Chávez.
