Daniel Dubois vs. Razvan Cojanu - 15 December 2018 *CANCELLED*

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

21-YEAR-OLD Heavyweight prospect Daniel Dubois will fight former world title challenger Razvan Cojanu on December 15th at the Brentwood Centre live on BT Sport.

Dubois (9-0) got taken the distance for the first time as a professional in October when American heavyweight veteran Kevin ‘Kingpin’ Johnson managed to survive a one-sided, ten-round beating.

Next up for Dubois is American-based Romanian, Razvan Cojanu. The 31-year-old has 16 victories to his name and just four defeats; one of those defeats coming on points against New Zealander Joseph Parker for his WBO World Heavyweight strap in May 2017.

Razvan will be the second former world title challenger Dubois will have faced so far in his young boxing career to date; this being just his tenth outing as a professional.

“Razvan is a good fighter who has been fighting at world level for the last couple of years. It’s another step up in level of opponent and I’m looking forward to getting in the ring on December 15th and topping the bill in Brentwood.

“Kevin [Johnson] showed how durable he is in my last fight. I got ten good rounds in the bag from the fight. I went the distance and felt good from it, I enjoyed the experience and it will only help me become a better and stronger fighter going forward.”

Sunny Edwards is rewarded for his scintillating display last month against Ryan Farrag with a further defence of his WBO European super flyweight title on a BT Sport televised card.

The 22-year-old from Croydon will hit double figures on the night as he seeks to go 10-0 in the professional ranks.
Former British champion Bradley Skeete got back into winning ways at the same Brentwood venue in October with a savage third round stoppage of Fernando Valencia and now seeks to restore his name in the world rankings.

Also showcasing their talents in Brentwood will be exciting super featherweight Ryan Garner (7-0), super welterweight Hamza Sheeraz (5-0), former Team GB flyweight Harvey Horn (3-0), unbeaten Light Heavyweight Willy Hutchinson (6-0), bantamweight Jake Pettitt (4-0), middleweight Caoimhin Agyarko (1-0). Portsmouth lightweight Mark Chamberlain will make his professional debut.

The phrase "former world title challenger" in this day and age doesn't mean shiit anymore..

Makes the bout look better... 'Oh, Dubois is gonna be fighting a former world title challenger'.. Well, so was Kevin Johnson, 8 years ago..

Former world title challenger is really stretching it.
The truth is "last minute sparring partner replacement for Hughie Fury" who was so negative against Parker, he stunk the joint out worse than Hughie managed to do. And that's saying something.

What does a win for Dubois really do here? The Johnson fight, you could say, gave Dubois some rounds, but what did he learn?

Dubois KO's Cojanu..

Some will say.. "Parker couldn't do it".. Well Parker isn't a knockout artist. Same can be said for let's say, Joshua. Couldn't drop Parker, Whyte did.. Every fight is different, styles will always make fights.

dubois was getting tons of hype as some monster puncher before, guess they want him to get back with a ko and also vs someone they can sell using the world title challenger/parker couldnt put him down but danny the monster destroyed him

tbf its not an absolutely horrible fight for a 21 year old 9 fights in, i mean luis ortiz is still fighting guys like cojanu, but it really doesnt prove much at all and has an obvious outocme

As Cojanu isn't a prize on anyone's resume, I'm wondering if Dubois himself is questioning himself after being forced to go the distance in his last fight. I mean, he can't learn anything from being in the ring with a slob like Cojanu, so what else? There are plenty of fighters that would make a heck of a lot more sense for him. I guess he really isn't ready.

I'll agree with that. Every fight is a learning experience for DDD.

No problem with Cojanu at this stage of his career.

Theres no need to rush Dubois, keep him busy and work on improvements from the Johnson fight.

Harsh replies.

He is 21 years old and 9-0.He just went 10 with Kevin Johnson and that was beneficial, before that he faced an ambitious English level opponent in Tom Little.

Now he gets experienced international competition.Cojanu isn’t up to much, but he is big, went 12 v Parker, won a round in the boxcino tournament and was considered good enough to be Luis Ortiz opponent on HBO earlier in the year.

Whether he wins in one or labours to a points win. This is just a part of a young heavyweights apprenticeship. They are looking to build 2 young heavys and Gorman v Leapai and Dubois v Cojanu are perfectly acceptable matches right now.

funny thing is, even in his boxcino win that fight was originally a draw vs a nobody and they needed to do another round, thats nothing at all

its okay for dubois at this stage as a very young guy with only 9 fights, at this point he can still have fights just to get out there. but make no mistake, cojanu is awful, he wasone of the worst hw title challengers ever and was a laughable opponent for ortiz. hes not some guy with meaningful questions to pose or anything like that.

i just hate seeing raz fighting anyone decent, i cant shake how bad hes been in some of the fights ive seen

I don’t have any issue with this fight although I do if it’s the main event.

Are they replacing the British title Super Feather fight?

I think guys like Johnson & Cojanu are good opponents for Big D.
They have a bit of experience but are crap and no real threat - surely thats what a 21 year old HW needs

I just think he should be more active. 4 fights against no hopers this year. Im sure he learnt alot from fighting Johnson and going away to spar Povetkin but surely he can do more. :-?

He’s 21.. he should maybe fight every other month for at a year. So what if he builds a record of 30-0.. it’s be a gradual build. He’s knocking everyone out anyway bar Kingpin. So how much rest would he need. He should fight more than 4 times next year.
