Jeff Horn vs. Anthony Mundine - November 30, 2018

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the Australian grudge match between former world champions Jeff Horn and Anthony Mundine has been picked up in the United States by ESPN+.

The fight takes place on November 30 at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia.

Based on the time differences, the fight will likely stream live on ESPN+ on Saturday morning, around 7am EST/4am PST.

Horn's shocking decision win over Manny Pacquiao from July 2017 is still ESPN's highest rated fight in Top Rank's exclusive content deal with the network.

And Horn's defeat at the hands of Terence Crawford, in June, was the first major boxing event for the launch of ESPN's streaming service.

Mundine Erupts Over Cheating Claims To Make Weight For Horn

Anthony Mundine has slammed Jeff Horn's camp for claiming the former boxing champion may be tempted to take prohibited substances to make weight for their November 30 fight.

Mundine admitted it would be a challenge to drop weight for the 71kg [156.5] catchweight bout on November 30 in Brisbane - supposedly the 43-year-old's final fight.

But he was angered by Horn's trainer Glenn Rushton's comments this week that claimed the former three-time world champion may take "short cuts".

Rushton revealed under their contract Mundine could be blood and urine tested up to five times before the fight to make sure the former NRL star was losing weight "properly" and not using diuretics or prohibited substances.

But a riled Mundine said on Friday: "I am the most elite athlete Australia has ever had - I don't take short cuts.

"I have never drunk (alcohol) or taken any type of drug in my life.

"I am not going to take diuretics, that is going to make me even weaker.

"I don't want to come into the fight drained".

Mundine, who fought Danny Green last year at cruiserweight, is believed to be trying to come down from 80kg [176].

Horn, 30, has fought most of his career at the welterweight limit.

Also under the contract, Mundine will have to pay a fine of $20,000 per 100 grams for the first kilogram he is over the 71kg limit and then $500,000 for every kilogram after that at the weigh-in held on the day before their fight.

Mundine (48-8-0 record) and Horn (18-1-1) will be weighed again two hours before the fight where both must be 75kg or less.

Mundine said he agreed to the stipulations to get the Suncorp Stadium fight done because he believed it was what the fans wanted to see.

"It is going to be hard (losing weight). They have brought in all these stipulations but I am a cool cat, I just wanted to get the fight done," he said.

"They (Horn camp) want to try and limit me the best they can to make me as vulnerable as I can be.

"They want to put all these stipulations in to make it even harder.

"I just said 'let's do it, sign the contract, and then we will see what's up with your boy'.

"I am making sure I do everything in my power to be as physically strong as I can be - I will come in fresh."

Horn Realizes That He Must Dominate Mundine To Impress

To get his boxing world title back Jeff Horn knows simply beating Anthony Mundine in Brisbane at the end of the month is not enough.

Horn knows nothing less than a dominant victory over the 43-year-old former NRL player will do in the eyes of international opponents and promoters.

The 30-year-old's reputation took a hit in June when he surrendered his WBO welterweight title by losing to American Terence Crawford in his first professional defeat.

Many have since questioned his selection of Mundine as his next opponent, with the pair to face off at Suncorp Stadium on November 30.

"To get back on the world stage and get that world title back I definitely have to win well,"
Horn said.

In preparation for a likely verbal barrage from the outspoken Mundine, Horn has been encouraging his sparring partners to trash talk in the ring.

While Horn doesn't believe he can be psyched out by words, he says it's all part of ensuring he's as prepared as possible for whatever Mundine throws at him.

"The talk inside the ring really doesn't bother me ... the little words he's going to be saying to me, I'm sure I can block out," Horn said.

Horn's preparations for the Crawford fight were thrown in chaos when he initially failed to make his weight for the bout.

The Brisbane-based boxer said he's having no such issues this time and even had a playful jab at 'Choc' Mundine.

"I'm pretty much sitting on the weight now ... I don't have to cut much at all," he said.

"I have been eating a little bit of chocolate, that will make Mundine very jealous, every night I can have just a little tiny bit with a cup of tea or something."

This should be a one-sided beating that finally sends Mundine into retirement.

The fact that Horn is using this fight as a barometer of his way forward in boxing suggests that he has already lost his edge.

The two-fight preliminary card will kick off at 5:45pm (AEDT) (4:45pm local), with the seven-fight undercard then expected to get underway at 6:30pm (AEDT).

There will be two titles on the line across the seven fights, which are expected to go for about four hours before the main event. That fight will, of course, run over 12 rounds between Horn and Mundine.

The preliminary card will not be broadcast on TV in Australia, while the first hour of the undercard (or two fights) are then set to be broadcast on Fox Sports 503, and the remainder of the card switching across to Main Event TV.

The two titles on the line will be the WBA Oceania Welterweight Title between Cameron Hammond and Frank Rojas in Fight 5, and the Australian Super Featherweight Title between Brent Wilson and Liam Rice in the fight before the main event.

Despite speculation that he would make an appearance, Quade Cooper does not have a match listed on the undercard. His three most recent professional bouts have all been on undercards for Anthony Mundine fights, but he won’t take part in this one.

Undercards just started. Wondering how horn will do. Age is a massive factor. Maybe Mundine can out skill him for a few of the earlier rounds but the activity will get to him in the end in my opinion. I rate Mundine though. Think he was very competent back in the day.

Well deserved for Chua. Who on earth thought it was a good idea to put #2 WBO ranked Kye Mackenzie in a 6 round fight?! When he rebuilds it should be from the ground up with an entirely new team. Crazy!

Yeah agreed, great effort from Chua on short notice. Back to the drawing board for Mackenzie, bad setback.
