Yes, people bring out the Chisora fights....... and yes he did a job on Chisora both times, especially fight 2. However, I still also think Chisora was 1) Clearly out of shape for fight 1, and 2) Lots of gym rumours about his health for fight 2.
Yes, possibly harsh - but then probably his next best opponent was Cunnigham who floored him, Hammer - C Level and I can barely remember who else he's fought - we could be seriously suggesting his next best opponent after Hammer was John McDermott.
Its a fascinating fight - both seem to be flawed fighters and characters.
Wilder is amateur-ish, fought C-level comp and his chin is unproven. Too harsh?

He did look faded in that one. The Fury-Wlad fight is a strange one. Wlad in general is a bit of a strange one.tobyh5 wrote: ↑28 Nov 2018, 13:48Struggled is a poor verb choice. He beat Wlad, who had struggled with Jennings and we need to see more than that one win to see what he has. In history, lot of people had one big win but subsequent outings end up with the impression that it was probably a case of catching the right guy on the right night
Fury done for him with his awkwardness and sheer size. The usual mind games backfired and it showed.
Wlad then produced a fine effort against Joshua.
How would the Fury rematch have gone had it took place? I honestly think the Wlad that fought Joshua would beat Fury. We’ll never know of course.
Wilder Fury is intriguing. I hope Fury smothers Wilder’s work and wears him down. I worry Tyson has overdone the weight loss though. He’s a naturally big man of course but he’s not a hulking bloke by any means. He doesn’t seem overly strong for his size and looks a little too lean in the pictures I’ve seen.
He looked strong in the Wlad fight. Maybe it was the gear? Either way I hope he hasn’t rushed this
I’m still backing him to do the business!

Re: Wilder is amateur-ish, fought C-level comp and his chin is unproven. Too harsh?
chisora was in bad shape at over 260 and was spent and had very little to offer after a good flurry early, that was rightfully a lopsided 10-2 type of win for fury, not close at all, i thought he looked close to stopping chis a few times too
fury bossed him in close actually with a lot of uppercuts and body work, totally different range from the second fight where he jabbed and move pretty much whole time

Yeah that's right, he was in awful shape wasn't he? Well overweight. Must have been worried about the size, because I've never seen him that bad sincejamamb wrote: ↑28 Nov 2018, 17:29 chisora was in bad shape at over 260 and was spent and had very little to offer after a good flurry early, that was rightfully a lopsided 10-2 type of win for fury, not close at all, i thought he looked close to stopping chis a few times too

Re: Wilder is amateur-ish, fought C-level comp and his chin is unproven. Too harsh?
ya he was about 20 pounds lighter for the rematch and clearly with more energy then the first fight, he just could never really manage anything with fury jabbing and keeping range effectively, that was probably the least competitive dels been in any fight , even when haye stopped him he was looking 'in' the previous rounds

wlder already beat a top 5 hw who punches much harder then fury and can box some himself....hes past the point of being some big hype job fraud who just falls to peaces vs first legit opponent
granted when he was coming up he gave off that vibe to me ....but he proved himself to be better then i thought hed be

I discount Chisora II for this fight because Del was largely beaten by height and reach from a keepaway Fury. That leaves Ortiz, who was 137 years old according to my barber, and the off-night Wlad.
This is the biggest test for both in my book. Obviously I felt that Wlad would be Fury's greatest challenge until it happened, but hindsight's wonderful. Wlad hurt Fury slightly when he woke up in the 12th, so I think that Fury only beats Wilder if he avoids getting caught all night. It's certainly possible, but I imagine the opposite's more likely on account of Wilder's attributes as a package, and then I start thinking about Pajkic and Cunningham again.
Yes, Fury's improved since then, but his chin hasn't. I'm sure this'll be a career-best win for one of them.

Pajkic and cinningham both put Fury on his back because he dropped his left and was wide open for the overhand right. Wilder is all wrong for Fury - imo Wilders biggest asset is how far back he throws the overhand right from. He takes a huge step forward and slightshots it from the other side of the ring, and does so with incredible handspeed.Grilling Machine wrote: ↑28 Nov 2018, 22:51 I discount Chisora II for this fight because Del was largely beaten by height and reach from a keepaway Fury. In addition to keeping his left hand low Fury also leans back. It works for him vs shorter guys but Wilder is nearly as tall as him.
I suspect Fury might switch southpaw early on just to try and avoid the right and give him chance to land a right handed check hook if Wilder falls in, but he'd be giving up his jab, which is really where his success has came from. All roads lead to Wilder for me, Furys best chance is to get. in the mix with big shots of his own imo. Maybe that's why he hired Roach... fight fire with fire?

With my objective head on though, I'm looking through his resume and I'm not blown away by the names on there. I'm watching videos of him, yes I see the knockouts but I also see him falling over his feet, looking wide open and waving his arms around when he gets into trouble. For whatever reason, when I see him fight I'm just not thinking 'yes, this guy is top drawer'. Granted, he is dispatching these guys, but not always without making a slog of it, so he's clearly a level above them. I'm not saying he's awful, can't box, or anything like that. I just wonder if we've got another Michael Grant here, comes in with a fearsome reputation but gets quickly found out at the very top level and collapses when he gets chinned. Am I being too harsh here, how reasonable an opinion is that?

And he leaves himself open when switching, which is also a shorties-can't-punish thing.
A fair bunch of us seem to share this view. But I've no idea if it's best for Fury to go all-in until we see what happens if he does. Keeping it close with his hands up feels like the most sensible advice right now. If he gets lazy on the outside he'll get tagged; Wilder's not a man to clown.I suspect Fury might switch southpaw early on just to try and avoid the right and give him chance to land a right handed check hook if Wilder falls in, but he'd be giving up his jab, which is really where his success has came from. I agree with you about his choice between having more safety with a counter right (I think that's a good thought), or retaining his jab and having to really focus on distance and timing. We saw Harrison's paw doing no business, and Fury has the same tendency as a lefty. Wilder was wary of walking into Harrison's best punch, but the big man relied on that one setup his entire career. Does Fury bring anything more to the table as a lefty, or has he just been flattered by his shorter opponents...
I'm inclined to believe it's more of the latter. As a lad I fought an older boy who was a few inches shorter, and I found it easy to work him over with my stronger right arm as a southpaw jab. But had he been taller or more talented, not a chance.

He's never impressed me, I expect Fury to be too clever for him, I think AJ would flatten him.

This is why I'm hyped for it: who knows?!
