A small rant on Deontay Wilder
Now I completely respect Wilder for his ‘skills’ and resume in the ring. He’s a good boxer, to be fair to him, but...
Now we’ll start off with his fight with Luis Ortiz — arguably his most difficult fight so far — where Wilder eventually picked up the victory. He struggled with Ortiz for a while and was eventually rocked with a good left-right combination but regained himself after the sixty-second break between the rounds. Now people like Anthony Joshua would probably (I’m at least 80% sure) not struggle with the likes of Ortiz, neither would Tyson Fury, but I imagine Dillian Whyte would be challenged by him.
How can Wilder be taken seriously as a ‘world-class champ’ when he
struggles with the likes of Ortiz?! If Ortiz rocked him, Joshua could well KO Wilder — possibly even Fury, though that is more unlikely than less. Deontay Wilder is an above-average boxer, but certainly nothing elite or legendary.
I’m ranting/venting about this because I see a lot of people talking how Wilder could knock Joshua out, become the new Lineal Champion, and even unify the Heavyweight Division — even though people have only just found out about him!

Re: A small rant on Deontay Wilder
Your assessment of Ortiz is flawed. He is a very dangerous fighter (no one wanted to fight him) who had Wilder on the brink, but Wilder dug down deep and came back to destroy Ortiz in 10 rounds. Why do so many give AJ the opposite assessment after being knocked down by a over 40 y/o Stewardless Wlad in a very close matchup? It just amazes me. I believe that Ortiz would've whacked that Wlad inside the distance. Wilder's power is enough to make him dangerous to any fighter out there.OH_RickNMorty wrote: ↑28 Nov 2018, 20:38 Now I completely respect Wilder for his ‘skills’ and resume in the ring. Re: A small rant on Deontay Wilder
Wilder, Povitkin, Ortiz, Whyte, and even Price could knock Joshua out.
It's if they can land the KO shot before Joshua deals to them first.
Neither Wilder nor Joshua have a granite chin.
As for Wilder being over rated, in the current crop of heavies no, historically- heck yes!

I’m sure you’re aware of what happend to Povetkin and Whyte when they tried their luck. David Price KO’ing Anthony Joshua...? Now that’s just an insult to Joshua and the boxing community as a whole.KiwiRider wrote: ↑28 Nov 2018, 20:47 Wilder, Povitkin, Ortiz, Whyte, and even Price could knock Joshua out.

Kiwi's point is that Price has the power to KO AJ, not that he would actually do it. Re: A small rant on Deontay Wilder
The only person Joshua has fought that's as good as Ortiz is Wlad, and Joshua both tasted the canvas and nearly lost.
All the top heavyweights have serious limitattions, they're not great, but it's great fun.

Yup...amongst the top 5 or 6, anything can happen, IMHO. Not the best guys ever, but perhaps the most competitive in years!
Re: A small rant on Deontay Wilder
I guess, generally he is judged fairly. As a top competitor, but not the true champion.
Re: A small rant on Deontay Wilder
Ortiz was the best HW in the world imo, when he KOd Jennings. He just left it too late to get his career going.
It was a good win for Wilder, better than Furys over an injured Klitchko, but mayge Not quite as AJs over a fit Klitchko.
Wilder is underrated, i keep hearing he can't box, etc, which is just stupid. He does make alot of mistakes, and he throws so much into his shots that he squares up and is easy to counter - but Ortiz countered him loads out of the southpaw stance, hurting wilder on more than 1 occassion, but even when hurt he still fired back.
His hands are quick and getting more accurate as his career progresses. He's as dangerous as they come as a HW.

Oh wow you really got serious there. You must of had a lot of pent up aggression. Are you ok now, did you rant enough. Now maybe its time to calm down and make more David Haye versus posts.OH_RickNMorty wrote: ↑28 Nov 2018, 20:38

I rate Povitkin and Takem around the same level as 2018 Ortiz

Re: A small rant on Deontay Wilder
I think I’ll probabky move on from Haye, to be honest, I was watching some of his old fights not to long ago and I had some questions while watching the fight, so I told them to the main online boxing community. And yes, thank you for asking, this rant definitely helped.lazboy wrote: ↑29 Nov 2018, 00:45Oh wow you really got serious there. You must of had a lot of pent up aggression. Re: A small rant on Deontay Wilder
Cheers tiny. Also forgot to mention Wilders amatuer career wasn't half bad either, which should further put to bed the myth he's a cr@p boxer. He's a better boxer than Fury.tiny_acres wrote: ↑29 Nov 2018, 00:52Another good post RickyRKY wrote: ↑29 Nov 2018, 00:39 Ortiz was the best HW in the world imo, when he KOd Jennings. Re: A small rant on Deontay Wilder
Whether it was an excuse or legit, I will go with legit I guess, that Wilder had the flu a week before fight night, I'm impressed by how he dealt with Ortiz. Bar AJ, there aren't any Heavies I can think of that hit as hard as Ortiz either, so hats off to Wilder and his whiskers too. As much as people have ripped him for this fight, I feel it showed a lot about him and fair play to him, flu or no flu.
Re: A small rant on Deontay Wilder
What if you take the power away from Wilder? Would he still be good boxer? Better than Fury if they had same power?
I don't think so. Wilder has been loosing many rounds to pretty average boxers. Washington, Szpilka and even part time boxer Duhaupas took rounds of from him.
Without that power he would be nothing

Re: A small rant on Deontay Wilder
I think he's neither..
As a HW, he has the power to stop anyone and has stopped everyone he'd fought.
He's not the best boxer out there, no doubt about that.

Re: A small rant on Deontay Wilder
To be fair he seems to have good stamina. That's not always the case for big dudes. Hes got good speed too.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑29 Nov 2018, 08:29 I think he's neither..

Hes defense is also pretty good but maybe bit too reliant on keeping the distance long. Speed helps with that too.
He tends to get bit too wild at times and can be countered when he gets over excited. Ortiz caught him that way but was too old and slow to finish things after the big hit.
I would like to see him against Ruiz. I think that Ruiz would be really tough matchup for him.

Fury lost to mcmuffin ffs.Heretic wrote: ↑29 Nov 2018, 08:25What if you take the power away from Wilder? Would he still be good boxer? Better than Fury if they had same power?

Re: A small rant on Deontay Wilder
He had an injured calf iirc. He postponed the fight because it and obviously wasn't fit. He just had too much class to "do a david haye" and blame the injury, but Vitali mentioned it.

Re: A small rant on Deontay Wilder
There's a lot of revisionism re: Ortiz.
For a good while he was seen as the bogeyman of the HWs; the uncrowned champ whom no-one wanted to fight, then Wilder signs to fight him, not once, but twice, eventually prevails in a see-saw battle and suddenly Ortiz is a fat old man with high blood pressure whom Wilder should have dispatched without breaking sweat.

A good majority on this forum just want to discount any accomplishment Wilder attains.Syntax Error wrote: ↑29 Nov 2018, 12:07 There's a lot of revisionism re: Ortiz.

If it fits their agenda they will twist and distort it
