Predict Furys tactics?
Predict Furys tactics?
What do you think Fury's gameplan will be? Could be fun, lets see if anyone gets close or if we're all miles away. My first thought was he'd stick to Wilder like glue as DW needs range to get that big right hand out, so if Fury can get up close and rough house him a bit then it takes that away. Wilder's probably not used to being wrestled with by a bigger bloke, one that can hit inside too. Then after watching a bit of Wilder I've changed my mind. I haven't seen many of his fights but from what I've seen DW looks very comfortable on the back foot inching back and then throwing that right hand from nowhere as you try and close him down. I think now then that Fury will stay at long range, and try to make Wilder come forward and lead. He can't sit and jump forward into that right hand as well if he's having to close range against a guy backing away, much more risky. I wonder then if Fury will take DW out of his comfort zone by making him lead and catch him when he's open lunging in. Reminds me a bit of how Hopkins tackled Winky Wright, Winky wasn't used to pressing fights so Hopkins made him do it, took him right out of comfort zone.
That could, of course, be total bollox. My strike rate on predicting fights is fairly low tbh, but I like giving it a go.
Any other ideas for how Fury should set about it?

Box at range, switch stances often, try not to get knocked out in 3/4 rounds (which I imagine he will)

Hard to say really. I originally assumed Fury would try to get close and smother, using his size. But as he seems to be coming in lighter than usual, I guess he’ll try to box on the outside and use his speed. Probably switch-hitting.

Re: Predict Furys tactics?
I imagine he will approach it as he does most of his fights, safety first.
He looked poor in his last fight and he is not in the shape he was when he fought Wlad.
Much depends on what Wilder brings. Fury is a skilled boxer with fast hands and a good defence but Wilder can really bang and once he gets him going I think Fury will be left unconscious.

Re: Predict Furys tactics?
Fury will try to be evasive and box on the back foot. I expect him to have limited success and wilder to pounce on him and have him out of their in about 5 rounds. I don’t know the stats but wilder is long limbed and I cannot see Fury evading many punches against wilder. Wlad could not pull the trigger but wilder will pounce when fury is going backwards and thinks he’s in the safe zone
Re: Predict Furys tactics?
He will be switch hitting & just making wilders life a nightmare in there - he will make it v difficult for wilder to time him or get set in the fight, he'll be fighting in no rhythm at all and making wilder doubt himself, firing shots , racking up points, making wilder load up & Miss wildly, he'll have a weight advantage over wilder so I reckon at times he'll try and rough him up & bully him, just be all sorts of trouble for wilder, he's too savvy for him

Re: Predict Furys tactics?
The Gypsy King is a crafy fella, I guess, he will handily bewilder Wilder both outside and inside, never alowing him to find the golden middle for the money punch. And moreover maybe Fury even will provide some other trick, that can't even be predicted for now.
Re: Predict Furys tactics?
Man I ended up with egg on my face before with fury but s lotvof you guys see it different to me by the look of it. Don’t get me wrong I expect Fury to be unorthodox but I expect Wilder to take him out in style and suddenly. I expect Fury to be ahead at the time then it will just happen
Re: Predict Furys tactics?
I think Fury will probably go Southpaw early on just to try and stay out of range of the right & pick countershots if Wilder falls in. Trouble is, Fury isn't a natural lefty, and jabbing from his natural stance is Furys biggest asset which he would be giving up in order to be more negative.
If i was Furys cornerman id honestly tell him just to go and have a tear up with Wilder. He's not as elusive as he thinks he is & circling wilder and leaning back is going to end in a slingshot of a right from miles back landing on the button. He's a bigger guy, he should take the fight to Wilder, grab on, make it ugly, ram straight shots right down the pipe getting his weight behind them. Wilder is chinny too.

Re: Predict Furys tactics?
His tactics definitely won't be to get in there and have a tear up with Wilder in the centre of the ring. That would be complete suicide against such a huge puncher.
I actually think both fighters will start very cautiously. Wilder won't just come out swinging. Wilder is a slow starter usually and takes a few rounds to warm into a fight. He'll be wary of Fury as whilst Fury is not a huge puncher he hits hard enough to get his opponents attention and his sheer size will make Wilder think twice about being too reckless early on.
Fury will most likely look to box and move, using his far superior jab and movement to frustrate Wilder and create openings for himself. Fury is definitely the superior inside fighter as well so I would imagine he would also try to take every opportunity he can to clinch Wilder and lean on him to try and sap his energy as well as land cute inside shots to head and body.
I can see it for the most part being an ugly fight where neither fighter particularly lands much of note but Fury's superior work rate and skill should mean he'll move away and win a competitive but comfortable decision on the cards. Something like 116-112.

Who were the sparring partners in both camps? Any Lefties for Wilder?

Re: Predict Furys tactics?
A lot of movement from Fury whilst not engaging to much and smothering in close in the early rounds. As the fight goes into halfway Fury will start picking Wilder off as Wilder starts getting frustrated. Fury will go
Back to smothering in close late on in the fight and winning the rounds at range. Wilder to be exhausted come the end of the fight with Fury winning wide on the cards

I think he would like to start cautiously but I don't believe that will be an option as the moment the bell goes Wilder will be doing a cross between sprinting forwards and moving his arms like a drowning man.

Re: Predict Furys tactics?
I reckon we'll see a lot of wilder's jab in round one. He will need to measure the distance with someone as big and awkward as Fury. Don't be surprised if the right hand doesn't come for a while
Fury will be difficult to measure and move a lot early, sticking his left out and long... pivoting often and not doing much except tucking his chin in to his shoulder

Re: Predict Furys tactics?
Move away, defend. stink out the joint as much as possible.
Re: Predict Furys tactics?
Its an intriguing fight just because Wilder is such a knockout artist , Fury just seems so confident that I cant see him getting knocked out, Wlad Caught him late on in there fight with a great punch if I recall and Fury took it and held on/got though.
I predict that in Round 1 Fury will be doing mad dancing motions / Blowing kisses or something similar to then get a similar reaction from Wilder with nothing much happening in Round one apart from both roaring at each other after the 1st Bell.
Fury in Wlad Fight looked in best shape we ever saw him though and although hes looking Fitter again he doesn't look like that from what I've saw. I Just hope he still has the speed of Foot and Punch and wins this fight.

Establish the jab, then start early with the combinations. Stay on the front foot and challenge Deontay to make him give ground. Educated pressure is the key, not brawling.

He's a smart fighter, he'll try and smother him and make it ugly. He can't win from long range

The old classic.....
Box and move
Box and move
Re: Predict Furys tactics?
My thoughts too. Break him down a bit with the jab, bank some right hooks to the body early. Washington was landing the jab easily, Tyson will too.
It all depends what he can follow up with as to how the fight goes.
I see Tyson winning by KO mid fight. But I'm not betting any money on either guy
It could go either way.

Fair assumption and similar to how i see it going,Wilder may blow up using too much energy and fold late on.KiwiRider wrote: ↑29 Nov 2018, 14:22My thoughts too. Break him down a bit with the jab, bank some right hooks to the body early. Washington was landing the jab easily, Tyson will too.
