It’s good for horn. Maybe I personally underestimate him. Crawford is just levels above.

Fight Report

Jeff Horn didn’t even need two minutes to knock out Anthony Mundine on Friday night.

The former WBO welterweight champion caught Mundine with a left hook that floored Mundine with 1:33 to go in their scheduled 12-round middleweight match at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia. Horn’s 43-year-old opponent tried to get up, but referee Phil Austin determined he was in no condition to continue and halted the fight with Mundine on his gloves and knees.

Austin stopped their heavily hyped fight just 1:36 into it.

The fight, which was contested at a catch weight of 156½ pounds, should signal the end of Mundine’s long and sometimes-controversial career.

Horn improved to 19-1-1 and recorded his 13th knockout before an adoring hometown crowd. Mundine slipped to 48-9 (28 KOs), lost by knockout or technical knockout for the fourth time and suffered the worst loss of his 18-year pro career.

The 30-year-old Horn’s youth and strength advantages were evident as soon as the opening bell rang.

He caught Mundine with an overhand right just 13 seconds into their fight. Mundine moved backward after absorbing that shot, but came back to land a right hand of his own 15 seconds later.

Austin warned Horn 53 seconds into the fight for holding Mundine’s head down. Horn landed hard shots to Mundine’s body once the action resumed before unloading the left hook to Mundine’s head that ended their bout.

A stunned Mundine landed flat on his back. Austin’s count ended at eight as Mundine attempted to get up and their fight was stopped.

Asked if this was to be his final fight, Mundine (48-9, 28 KO) said, “It is it, man. Jeff was too strong. He just caught me with that good shot. It was meant to be, bro.

“I want to take my hat off to Jeff. All the smack talk, all the shit I talked, I built the fight, you know what I mean? It’s the entertainment business. But I’m alright. I’m all good.”

Mundine added, “I just want to be remembered as somebody that’s real, somebody that speaks the truth,” and gave his thanks to fans who have supported him over the years.

“Whether you like me or don’t like me, you were interested. My time’s up.”

The 43-year-old Mundine has lost four of his last six fights, and in most of them hasn’t really been competitive. Even of his two wins, one of them was a highly controversial decision.

We’ll see if this retirement sticks — it’s boxing, so even at age 43 you never really know for sure — but it is definitely time, if not past time, for “The Man” to hang up the gloves. In the end, he’d go out having had one more big fight at home, perhaps fully passing the torch to the man who will be carrying Aussie boxing for the coming years.

I can't believe anybody thought for 1 second this would be a competitive matchup. Mundine is basically shot, and was never all that great in the first place. Horn is no world beater either really, but he's in his physical prime still. Might not have even peaked yet actually.

undine has long been a divisive figure in the national landscape, but despite the copious amounts of backlash he receives. It’s hard to deny his achievements throughout his sporting career.

This did not prove anything besides that Horn should not fight outside of Australia. There should be no need for it. Just cherrypick opponents twice a year, with one in Suncorp and the other alternating between Sydney and Melbourne. Maybe take a fight in London or Vegas if the miney is right.

I can’t take anything away from Horn. I thought that Pac edged him but it was too close in Suncorp. Horn does not do boring, although Crawford used him for target practice.
