Jay Jimenez, manager of heavyweight contender Luis Ortiz (29-1), has advised BS.com that an agreement to face Travis Kauffman (32-2) is nearly finalized. The fight will take place on the Deontay Wilder-Tyson Fury pay-per-view undercard on December 1st in Los Angeles, California.
“Luis hs already agreed to terms,” Jimenez told BS.com. “We are just waiting for a call back but it’s 99% done.”
The fight will be Ortiz’s third of 2018 and Kauffman’s second of the year.

Luis Ortiz: I Deserve a Wilder Rematch To Erase Any Fan Doubts
Top heavyweight contender Luis Ortiz (29-1) returns to the ring on December 1st at the Staples Center in Los Angeles against Travis Kauffman (32-2).
The fight will take place on the Deontay Wilder-Tyson Fury pay-per-view undercard that will be distributed by Showtime.
"Even though Wilder is basic, he is very awkward with his approach. His punches don't come how you would think traditionally they come. His one-two and one-two-three don't come the way you expect. If he comes like that and attacks Fury then it will be a short night for Fury," Ortiz explained.
"Fury won't have an answer to that. The more classic fighters style are easier to defend against because that is what you are taught to defend against and that is the advantage for Wilder and he has a rocket for a right hand."
If Ortiz is victorious, he hopes to secure a rematch against Wilder in the near future. He feels strongly that his performance in their first fight merits another shot at Wilder and his green belt. He had Wilder ready to go in the seventh round - before the champion rallied down the stretch and stopped Ortiz in the tenth.
"I think I deserve a rematch. A rematch to erase any of the doubts the fans may have about the result of that fight. I had Wilder hurt but I made mistakes and I got tired. I believe that I should get a rematch," Ortiz stated.

Ortiz will beat Kauffman, but I have this funny feeling that he’s shot to pieces. He’s already well past-his-prime, age-wise, and the Wilder defeat probably dented his confidence somewhat. Getting KO’d often compels fighters to become gun-shy.
He may have one or two good performances still left in the tank, but I reckon his peers will think he’s ready for the taking.

I really hope he get's at least a rematch against wilder after fury is done with him. 100% ortiz will put wilder away. It was as much his own fault as he got fucked over against wilder. Fact is he wouldve won that fight without the extrarecovery for wilder & even after he got caught he couldve finished him but the effing ref waived it off as fast as he could.
Regarding him being shot, even a 60 year old ortiz would beat most actual heavyweights, at the moment he's still capable giving the top 5 guys hell with every chance of beating them. But still nobody will fight him if they don't have to, even "take all comers" whyte doesn't want no part of him.

Good thing with HW’s is they don’t make weight. They can go on forever. Ortiz can still probably beat 90% of the top 15 HW’s.

Re: Luis Ortiz vs. Travis Kauffman - December 1, 2018
Travis Kauffman was surprised once he carefully checked the terms of the agreement for his fight against Luis Ortiz.
The veteran heavyweight noticed his contract contained an immediate rematch clause, an unusual stipulation for a 10-round, non-title fight. If Kauffman, a big underdog, upsets Ortiz on the Deontay Wilder-Tyson Fury undercard Saturday night at Staples Center, he’ll have to face the Cuban southpaw again in his next fight.
“It’s uncommon, especially for fighting a guy that’s not known, per se,” Kauffman told BS.com, referring to himself. “But it’s life-changing money, so I had to agree to it. My goal is to beat him, knock him out and then say, ‘F*** that rematch! I want Wilder!’ ”
Kauffman (32-2, 23 KOs, 1 NC) views the rematch clause as a sign of respect, even though Ortiz (29-1, 25 KOs, 2 NC) is regularly posted as at least a 25-1 favorite in a bout that’ll be part of Showtime Pay-Per-View’s four-fight telecast.
“Personally, I think they know how tough I am,” Kauffman said. “If you look at my fights, I’ve been up and down. But every fight I’ve been in has been a war. Every one. Even my last fight, I was completely out of shape and I just kept going. They know I’m tough and they know for this fight I would come in in shape.
“They knew I was gonna bring the heat for this fight, so they probably feel like, you know, if they lose they could rematch me to prove that it was a fluke or whatever. It did surprise me, but I understand why. I understand why. I looked in his eyes and he couldn’t look at me. I think he’s a little nervous.”
