Marks out of 100...
For punching power. Not strength, or speed, or accuracy or how long they stayed explosive in a fight simply KO power. I'm really interested in your views. I know it's almost impossible to do with old timers but you can see their records and I'm only listing well known greats.

It was Friday afternoon. Just wanted to see how everyone ranked the list of fighters in punching power out of 100. 100 being the highest a 1 being the lowest.Ambling Alp wrote:Ezzard,
Do you want us to rank the guys you have listed, or add new guys, or what? Not sure what exactly you are asking.
Foreman might get 99
Tyson 93
Liston 95
Marciano 90
Louis 94
Holyfield 70
etc...
Really interested in the other guys like Sharkey, Ali, Holmes, Schmeling, Tunney, too...

Dont totally rip me apart here, but this is my take on most. I sort of treated it like a video game where no HW drops below 75 for power.

So just a 25 point psread for you then, Sock. I guess it depends upon how you use the system.sockdollanger wrote:Johnson 80

yeah, I might re-do it using the full 100 points, but it runs into problems if you include lighter weights. Say Hagler is a "powerful" MW, he still wouldnt be as powerful as say Sharkey who is a not-so-strong HW. But because it is just HWs I can see your point.Ezzard wrote:So just a 25 point psread for you then, Sock. I guess it depends upon how you use the system.sockdollanger wrote:Johnson 80

Re: Marks out of 100...
I see. This is tricky because styles can reflect KO's. Some guys sold out to attack, others prefer to set up the Ko shot by boxing. Here are my grades from 1-100, with 100 being the top score.Ezzard For punching power. Not strength, or speed, or accuracy or how long they stayed explosive in a fight simply KO power. I'm really interested in your views. I know it's almost impossible to do with old timers but you can see their records and I'm only listing well known greats.
Sullivan - INC
Jeffries - 93 - When he caught his man, a full 10 count followed. Top hook and body puncher. Dangerous uppercut as well.
Johnson - 79 - Nice uppercut. Johnson could punch when he wanted too, but too cautious in the ring to rate much higher.
Langford -84 - A tough in your face brawler with skills. His hook and right had plenty of pop in the. A pound per pound puncher.
Wills - 84 - Big and strong. Good right.
Dempsey -94 - A tiger with terffic speed, power and killer instinct. The hook and right were his best shots.
Tunney - 65 - More of a boxer. Solid right hand.
Sharkey- 60 - Sharkey had problems with his hands.
Schmeling - 83 - His right hand was a real winner, but he did not always press for the KO.
Louis -93 - Could produce a Ko with the hook, cross or uppercut. Best in combinations.
Marciano - 91 - More of an attrition type of Ko artists. The Rock never stopped throwing punches.
Patterson - 84 - His left hook was very dangerous. A pound per pound type of puncher.
Johannsson - 85 - His right hand was very dangerous
Liston - 96 - Some think he hit harder than Foreman. Had power in every punch including the jab.
Williams - 88 - The Big Cat could swat with the best of them. The right was his best.
Ali - 78 - Under rated power, mostly with the cross.
Frazier - 88 - More of an attrition type of Ko artists. Great left hook.
Foreman - 98- A thunderous puncher and destroyer of heavyweights.
Lyle - 84 - Good enough to be classified as a puncher.
Shavers - 98 - Perhaps the best single shot guy in heavyweight history.
Holmes - 82 - Under rated power with his cross and uppercut.
Cooney - 93 - His left was a true equalizer
Witherspoon - 86 - He had lots of power in his right hand, but was lazy in the ring.
Tyson -99 - Tyson uppercut was near lethal. His hook was dynamite too. The right hand could also and things, and Tyson could rip the body as well. In my opinion, Tyson had the most single shot power in boxing history.
Holyfield - 73 - Solid power with the hook or right. Not a Ko puncher for the most part.
Bowe - 93 - Threw his uppercut and cross with tremendous leverage.
Lewis -96 - Lewis is a true right hand bomber. Dangerous uppercut too.
Klitschko- 93 - Vladimir has a top cross & seldom used but powerful hook.
Good speed and technique complements his power

>>>danny nardico! interesting choice barry. why do u pick him?<<<
Nardico was a vicious puncher...one of the better punchers of the era though he never gets any mention nowadays. He really stopped LaMotta, but he also stopped some other tough guys and his punch was pretty feared by most light heavyweights of the era.
