This is a scary mismatch. No doubt about it.

And there's the bell....

Welburn significantly smaller. This'll be referee Lou Maret's last fight. Hurd clearly the quicker of the two. Welburn comes right at Hurd. The taller, rangier champion picking Welburn off with jabs. Welburn does land a good shot on Hurd. The champ has great lateral movement. I'd call this an even round.

Round Two

Hurd doubling up on the jab. Welburn is not as aggressive now, mainly because the champion is being busy cutting off the challengers momentum. Hurd allowing himself to be smothered. Hurd comes back to win the round.

If you've seen Hurd fight before, he can end this fight any time he wants. Hes just working out his shoulder which he got surgery on. He's literally throwing arm punches off the backfoot. I'm guessing he turns it up in about the 6th and ends the fight about 30 seconds later

The gulf in class is clear whenever Hurd creates some distance but a good, positive start from Welborn

Piss poor match up to be honest. What's the point? Hurd can finish this when he wants.

Round Three

BTW whose that ring card girl? Anyways, Hurd doubling up on the jab. Incorporating some hooks now. Welburn, tough and game, I'm thinking is starting to get a sense of the disparity between his class and Hurd. Hurd is pushed through the ropes, and Welburn comes back strong. I'll give it to Hurd, but, that's encouraging to see Welburn fights hard under pressure.

Welborn showing some heart here, and giving a respectable effort so far.

Round Four

Welburn trying to be the aggressor not giving him much breathing room. Hurd comes back tee'ing off. And Welburn goes down. Welburn could have gotten up, but stayed down, and waited till the referee counted "10" and then got up. Does he deserve a paycheck? Idk.

Tip of the hat to Welborn. He gave a sincere effort. Just wasn't good enough, but I can definitely respect a guy that goes for it. I'd rather see a guy go down like that than the non-effort Kauffman just bored us to tears with.

Of course he deserves a paycheck. He gave a better effort than any previous loser on the undercard so far tonight. Staying down until 10 and pretending to try to get up right at 10 isn't new in Boxing.

Two low blows followed by a legitimate body shot and it's all over. Brave effort JW.

Welborn only got a 30k purse there. Hope he got some extra payments in there from sponsors and tv.
