Ben Davidson deserves a bit of credit

Post by Steveh583 »

I've read nothing but how this guy was incompetent and too young and too inexperienced to train Tyson. So many people were moaning about Peter not being part of the camp and claiming he basically 'made' Tyson. Well Ben has done a brilliant job in motivating Tyson and getting him stripped of all that weight (something peter couldn't seem to do). For a 25-year-old I think he has done a fantastic job and deserves a pat on the back. I always think that it's a fighter that makes the coach and Tyson was developed long before Peter came on the scene.

Yes, good point. I was unsure about Davison because I didn’t know anything about him. All credit to him, he’s done an amazing job.

im not so sure

to be honest, i could have coached fury through the fight

if davidson has been involved in the weight loss and fitness then yes, maximum credit. but the jury is still out there with regards his boxing coaching ability.

Greg marriot deserves a lot of credit for the initial weight loss many many months ago.

Still think Peter was correct for the time in Tyson’s career. Peter changed him to a smarter fighter.

Davidson deserves big credit though. Tyson is experienced of course but Davidson sounded well in the corner.

Could you tho? It's very easy to say on an Internet forum. What's your coaching history? I mean that with the utmost respectful btw. Everyone thinks they could do it from the couch at home. And let's remember the actual fightnight is only a fraction of the work. Credit where it's due, he's been brilliant for tyson thus far.

yes I'm not saying peter wasn't good for tyson, just disputing that he was furys only valid option as many would have you believe in the build up.

According to Tyson's own statements, Ben helped him a lot indeed. Yes, he's young, but it looks like he can do well as a head-coach.

I agree. He did well and think he deserves credit.

Btw, it is Davison without the second "d"

Credit is xefinitely due but I just wish he'd demanded that Tyson coasted through the final round. He did so against Pianeta.

I actually think he realised that Fury's low workrate might give the judges the opportunity to score it the other way, if you see what I mean. In the Pianeta fight he knew Fury was a mile in front. Here he was probably thinking "He should get it but I'm not sure"—admittedly it nearly cost him big style.

My final going-to-bed prediction was Fury late stoppage after he befuddled Wilder & made him pay seriously all night, but he was content to steal a lot of the early rounds & when you're not a big hitter landing one or two punches more than your opponent is risky, particularly away from home. I think Davison was switched on enough to realise the scorecards might not be as clear-cut as all that.

He also deserves a massive thumbs-up for the weight loss & conditioning, no-one's out of shape who gets up from a knockdown like that in the 12th.

I would like to see a replay of his instructions to Tyson during the final round. I recal thinking he seemed to calm as Tyson sat down on his stool. This is not hindsight, i definately thought at that moment he should have given hi a strict talking to, made sure he was 100% switched on and boxing behind the jab.

He seemed to calm to me during that final round.

Anyway, other than that, he clearly did a good job and i liked his calmness during the earlier round breaks of the fight

Massive credit to Ben. Tyson credits him with saving his life. Best of luck to both of them.

Came across as knowledgable and very calm in the corner. Peter Fury was like that too and it works well for Tyson.
I was impressed, esp for a young fella jumping in the deep end.

I was one who critizised his lack of experience , But you have to give him credit for the shape he got Tyson in , BUT what put him higher up the ladder for me was bringing in more experienced people to help , not many would do that , and for me its the sign he's going to go a long way ,

True. Kind of indicates his egos in check and he just wants the best for the fighter
