wicked york hall show last night

Post by boxerrob2005 »

last nights bill was really good. the meager-stewart slugfest is definately a contender for british fight of the year and daws put on an impressive display. shame the meager fight was on past 11 as i would of gone but the last trains from charing x leave about midnight and would of never made it. i wonder if this affected anyone elses decision to go.
still a real quality show.

Meager-Stewart was a great scrap, Stewart reminded me a little of Antonio Margarito! Tall, rangy and throwing none stop punches, also with little head movement but a very exciting style. Meager dug deep and finished matters well but can he move on past British level? Seems a little open but has potential.

The main event was interesting, i was so frustrated with Nigel Wright's performance, i was just willing him to box on the outside and use his jab but he kept fighting inside and falling in to clinches. Nightmare! When i first saw this match being made i felt Daws workrate and fitness would wear Wright down and win it for the local man, however on a previous thread i leant towards Wright's extra quality. It turned out that a combination of Wright fighting the wrong fight and Daws dragging him into his style of fight determining the outcome. Wright showed a lack of variety...jab, jab, straight left to start with and then just jab and fall in as the fight progressed. It was crying out for Wright to stay long and give Daws angles.

A good couple of fights none the less :TU:

What did you make of Meagers comments that Stewart doesn't know how good he is? Stewart seemed to be cruising at times and boxing very well, using his height and showing good shot variation. Then seemed to fold fairly quickly once more pressure was applied. Great fight which I didn't expect with all the talk of them being such close friends and all the touching gloves at the start of each round.
