Gvozdyk vs 175's challengers

Post by lookingaround87 »

How do you think he does vs...

Alvarez
Bivol
Jack
Kovalev
Beterbiev
Browne

I think he's already passed the toughest test at 175 with the Stevenson victory and he'll dominate the division for the next 3-4 years, beating all the challengers listed above.

Stevenson was ready to be taken, and DEFINITELY wasn't the most dangerous guy in the division at this point. I think Gvozdyk could beat Alvarez, and Kovalev at this point. He'd beat Jack too.

Not sure he beats Bivol or Beterbiev.

I think several guys would've beaten Stevenson last night.

kov may be a bit of damaged good now, even though he still was decent before being stopped by alvarez. id pick gvo there

beterbiev imo has too many holes in his game for me to pick him vs the best guys. gvo is well schooled and can punch himself and id pick him

brown and jack may fight next and that should give some answers on where there at in the mix. jack is strong and steady but really has no second gear at all and gives too many rounds away. browne looks gifted at times but i question his toughness. down a few times and looked mentally unraveling at times vs hot rod.

alvarez is an all around solid boxer with good speed and solid power. maybe a bit more athletic then gvo. him vs gvo would be very nice

bivol well schooled and steady, with decent power. another nice fight. hard to say.

Bivol is average. I doubt Beterbiev's chin can hold up against Gvodzyk, though I do see him as the biggest threat to Gvodzyk.

When did Beterbiev ever appear to be chinny? I must've missed it.

hes been down a few times, vs not that good of opponents. part of that is his defense though, which isnt very good. hes a wild crude fighter but does appear to have serious 'melting' power, even on shots that hardly travel

but i really struggle to see beterbiev as the top lhw, there are other guys around now who can punch pretty good themselves (even if not as hard as him) and are a lot more polished

I didn't say he was the Top Light Heavyweight necessarily, but I don't think Gvozdyk is either.

Gvozdyk was even with Stevenson IMO before stopping him in the 11th. I don't think Bivol would've been.

i had gvo ahead myself and he closed with a bang and may literally have killed adonis, so i rate his performance. got rocked a bit by an excellent puncher, but was composed and recovered fast and had adonis hurt in the same round.

bivol i rate highly too. i dont think theres a clear guy at 175, guys like gvodzyk, bivol, alvarez.....i can see it being any of them, and then we have a very solid group with beterbiev, jack, and browne. i know most would include beterbiev in the first group but i am just not convinced. too flawed imo even though he may be the best puncher out of them

As others are saying - some very good fighters in that weight just seems like no one is head and shoulders above the other - including Gvodzyk. However Gvodzyk could very well remain supreme. I personally like Bivol, he’s also still young. I’d like him to show us how he goes close up rather than boxing from a distance. This remains unclear.

Interesting, competitive fights, no one has yet shown to be special but may prove so. Callum Smith surely will enter the ranks soon.

175 is hot right now.

Stevenson looked old versus Jack and sadly for him, he's out of the equation now (hoping he recovers soon).

I'd like to see him against any of the top guys.

I think he does well against all of them.

Alvarez looked good against Kov, but i'm still not sold that he is the man of the division or would dominate the others as he did Kovalev.

His technique and style is good, but his power doesn't seem to be as consistant, and theres no telling if it would effect the others the way it did Kov.

Bivol and Beterbiev are good, especially Bivol, but Gvodyk's win and performance last night was more impressive than anything i've seen from these two.

I'd slightly favor Gvozdyk over both Bivol and Beterbiev atm.

Jack and Browne are wildcards atm.

Yeah, pretty much. Gvozdyk/Alvarez/Bivol are the top 3, though Beterbiev would have a real, live puncher's chance against all but Bivol as Bivol takes less risk and is a little less creative as a result.

kovalev was clearly ahead of alvarez when he got stopped. i tend to think alvarez would win again in a rematch though

He did look stunned by the shot from Callum Johnson. The knockdown against Jeff Page seemed to be more of a balance thing than a case of him being hurt.

I'm not sure if I'd say he's "chinny" exactly based off of these knockdowns. He did get right up in both cases, and like I say didn't seem hurt at all in the case of the Page knockdown.

I assume Hot Rod is that fella he was said to have been dominated by? Name has slipped my mind. What was your take on that fight?

So Gvozdyk....it’s no secret I’m a big fan, I think he can become no.1 at LHW.

A funny little division it’s turning out to be. It seems weak outside of the top 10, maybe that’s unfair? Either way, inside the top 10 is an extremely intriguing set of pairings that can decide who the guy is in the division.

I reckon this should be the next division to have the World Boxing Super Series.

Gvozdyk can beat any of the aforementioned contenders IMO, Beterbiev could beat Gvozdyk.
Álvarez could beat Bivol.

Ain’t nothing wrong with having a few guys possibly being the no.1...
