Re: fighter of the year 2018
Usyk
As a short list nomination, Kenshiro, stopping Lopez and Melindo is impressive, do the same to Juarez and that's a solid year by anyone's standards.

Re: fighter of the year 2018
Usyk by default. I don't think any fights will have near what he accomplished. Unified a strong division and he became the absolute consensus #1 with no argument whatsoever about any champion he might've not beaten after he beat Bellew.

Re: fighter of the year 2018
yeah it's Usyk imo. Joshua 2nd, he won unification vs Parker and knocked out top contender Povetkin.
Re: fighter of the year 2018
Usyk, nobody already can do something bigger.

Currently I rate Crawford 2nd on the list, but pending the result of that Dec. 30 match, Shiro will likely wind up there instead. (Behind Usyk, obviously.)
Re: fighter of the year 2018
My list, since others are doing them. By the way, I don't think Joshua is number 2. I'd have him low on the list. Not really an impressive year for him. He was the favorite in both fights, and they're not too impressive compared to what other fighters have done so far either as underdogs or in dominating competition. As it stands, Parker already arguably lost to Ruiz Jr. and maybe Huey. Povetkin was looking like crap two fights prior. Compared to others, I don't think it's that impressive.
People underrating Dogboe's year. It's been a massive year for him. Magdaleno was a monstrous prospect prior and had a great win over Donaire. Navarrete is a big, hard-hitting Mexican. Dogboe is tiny too.
Shiro has been on fire this year, so I'd have him #2.
1. Usyk
2. Shiro (assuming he wins)
3. Dogboe (assuming he also wins)
4. Bivol
5. Joshua

Re: fighter of the year 2018
Prior to last weekend, Oleksandr Usyk would have been my pick for the fighter of the year, based on the fact he cleared up the cruiserweight division, whilst being the road warrior facing his opponents’ in their own backyards, coupled with unifying all the titles and winning the WBSS tournament...
However, Usyk only achieved what he was heavily expected to, but Tyson Fury had to overcome greater adversity, defy expectations and made a much greater historical contribution to the sport of boxing when he was unfairly deprived of his victory over Deontay Wilder.
I’ve never been a huge fan of Fury, as his style isn’t my cup of tea, and the Brits’ persona has been kind of unlikable for most of his career, but the “comeback” feat that Tyson achieved last weekend was nothing short of monumental.
Therefore, Tyson Fury has supplanted Oleksandr Usyk as being named as my fighter of the year 2018, despite the Ukraine achieving more from a sporting perspective.
I’m pretty sure that in years to come, far more people will recall Fury’s remarkable comeback than Usyk’s brilliant exploits at cruiserweight.

If Usyk does not win fighter of the year it will be a certified, diamond plated robbery, not a snivelfest.
Re: fighter of the year 2018
It is obviously Usyk.
You could also make a weak case for Dogboe if he wins in style today, but Usyk definitely takes it.

Re: fighter of the year 2018
Why only the big guys. What about Naoya Inoue, he's destroyed his last two opponents in one round. Is it because his resume isn't huge? If so maybe he'll get it next year when he gets all the belts in Bantamweight.
Re: fighter of the year 2018
McDonnell is his only good win this year. Payano never beat Warren. He should've had two losses to him. He's not that good at all. I'd say Dogboe's win over Magadleno is way better than Inoue's win over McDonnell. Shiro's depth this year beats both's.
Re: fighter of the year 2018
What if Inoue wins against his next two opponents in the WBSS, do you think a fighter of the year would be possible then? Never saw Dogboe fight, gonna see him tonight for the first time.
Re: fighter of the year 2018
payano beat warren legit. and had a very good argument for wnnng the rematch.. very very close fghts. also beat moreno who still had somethng. payanos a good durable fghter and naoya destroyed the guy 1 round.
Re: fighter of the year 2018
as for fury....2 low level opponents and a draw just dont cut foty standard for me regardless of whether you personally consider his story insprng.
one might say fury having to return from ped test positive + drugs+alchol+ etc also shows how undispclned he was and that that shouldnt be turned into an award. other fghters lived much much cleaner and so didnt need to return

Re: fighter of the year 2018
big shout Usyk for fighter of the year, every fight he has fought this year has been at the pinnacle of his weight, but
i am going Tyson fury for fighter of the year

Re: fighter of the year 2018
why? dont tell me the insprng stuff when he put himself into the situation wth ped failures....drugs..alcohol. this wasnt a man gettng run over and returning from njury. fury just created hs own problems and shouldnt be rewarded compared to fghters who stayed clean
he has 2 nothing wins and a draw vs wlder. wlders hardly more proven if at all then murat gassev
ussy beat 3 arguably top 5 cws....became undisputed and lineal...and won every match in the opponents backyard. way more impressive year

Re: fighter of the year 2018
Fury is kinda a person of the year, but Usyk is a fighter of year, cause Fury's achievements are bigger in the character sense, while Usyk's ones are in the sense of the sports.
