someone educate me on joe joyce
this guy just looks so terrible to the eye, like the type of mummified slow and clumsy where you wonder if someone would have to try on purpose to look that bad
yet i thought he deserved olympic gold, he won the commonwealths, and was an elite am for uk etc.....and now , albeit at not the highest level,, as a pro hes beating these guys up about as good as anyone has managed
what exactly is he doing right to have gotten him so far and to be comparing well to some decent fighters in who theyve done vs common opponents? how is he actually being pretty accurate even at gold medal am level despite being slow as flying f@ck?

Re: someone educate me on joe joyce
He's tough and strong. Sets a good pace. I think he's one of those fighters that will be hard to beat when he's actually in front of you.
Re: someone educate me on joe joyce
His work-rate for a Heavy is very good, and i believe he has raw natural power. Looking forward to seeing JJ in a meaningful fight.
Re: someone educate me on joe joyce
Joyce isn't fancy but he's fit and strong and can apply pressure, that's about it
Re: someone educate me on joe joyce
Yep, think that sums it up pretty well. Different style to Wilder, but similar in that his raw assets will get him towards the top pretty quickly, but the right calibre of fighter will expose his limitations.
Re: someone educate me on joe joyce
I be the fury fiddled him around something chronic in sparring for the wilder fight. Joyce is very athletic outside of boxing isn't he? His capoeira is impressive for such a big lump
Re: someone educate me on joe joyce
He's obviously a lot faster and more athletic than he looks - the back flips attest to that.
Very heavy hands. Not explosive Deontay/Haye power, more the "every shot hurts" grinding power of a Kovalev/GGG type. Either way it's very real.
The only heavy I can think of that fights at his pace is Fury - and he obviously hits a lot harder than him.
Add in some good-timing to make up for that lack of speed, a decent chin, trainer and work ethic, wrap it all up in a 6 6" body - that's quite a heavyweight!

I should add...
ANY HW in history would struggle with him on an "off night".
I imagine a peak Lennox Lewis (at his best my HW ATG) really in the zone. He'd annihilate Joyce while in 2nd gear. Make him look like a heavy bag, BUT..
The Lewis who took his eye off the ball vs Rahman ?
Joyce would grind him down.

Heavy handed. At worst a poor man's young George Foreman.
Stylewise, of course, I'm not predicting a similar pro career.

Re: someone educate me on joe joyce
He needs to be set to throw.
A fighter who moves well and can use angles will do well against him.
A fighter who wants to stand and trade will probably not do well.
Age not on his side.
Chin not tested yet, seems OK so far. Nicknamed "The Brown Lurch" by Miller and it seems fitting.
Has the potential to be -B level in the current division.
Gets beat by: Joshua, Wilder, Fury, Parker, Povitkin, Usyk (again) and maybe Hughie Fury on a good night.
Beats: Chisora, Miller, Kownacki, Martin, Hammer, and the two Chinese blokes, and possibly Whyte on a bad night.
If you want to see him schooled by a mover, search Joyce Usyk on YouTube.

I'd like to see him fight Andy Ruiz Jr.

He's big (6'6" and 18+ stone), strong, hits hard and most importantly for a HW has a good engine.
Re: someone educate me on joe joyce
Exactly, he will be a difficult guy to beat, Olympic skills, awkward too and more importantly can do it for 12 rounds. Needs to be moved on quickly though.Controversial wrote: ↑03 Dec 2018, 16:06 He's big (6'6" and 18+ stone), strong, hits hard and most importantly for a HW has a good engine.

Probably the most Foreman type boxer since Big George himself, sure there's been plenty big punching lumbering Heavyweights since Foreman retired but not ones with his amateur pedigree
Joyce fits the bill

Re: someone educate me on joe joyce
Yeah he looks so cumbersome but he must be very heavy handed. The effect fairly innocuous looking punches have on his opponents is startling. And he is a Fantastic athlete - I have never seen a guy so huge able to do backflips etc.
I think he’ll become a contender for sure. The comparisons with Foreman are good: they have different styles but both are technically poor but always seem to get the job done with heavy punching.
And can’t fault his attitude either. You really get the impression he will fight anyone. I wish him well!

Re: someone educate me on joe joyce
He goes to the body more naturally and more often than any current heavyweight that I can think of. Other heavies do it but not with the same kind of spite that Joyce does and that really seems to take it out of his opponents. His bodywork kind of reminds me of Froch’s in the second Groves fight. It looked so slow but they landed and they put water in the basement. I think he is an aesthetically displeasing but very effective fighter and he’ll be troubling the top 10 within the next 12 months.

I’d like to see the Joyce/Parker fight, I reckon he’s got a canny chance of beating him.

He's incredibly slow. Him and breazeale is the fight. They're clones.
