ANOTHER VEIWPOINT

Post by coneye »

OK ... I'm going against the masses on this one , Whilst i can commend Tyson for a good performance , and to be honest boxing better than i thought he could , I'm still not of the view he won , and definetly don't think he was robbed .

I base this on watching the fight , , and thinking your doing good , BUT your not doing GREAT , and great is what you have to do if you want to rip the champion of his belt in his backyard .

Ok Tyson boxed well , but he never really pushed it , he looked like he was concentrating more on not being hit , than trying to land , he done a good job , but it was Wilder pressing the fight , Tyson was'nt well at least not for most of it , there were TOO MANY real close rnds , for Tyson to win in Wilders back yard , . remember you have to win a championship belt , stealing it is a risky way of doing it , and just nulifying Wilder was never going to be enough , he was always going to have to take it off him , and he did'nt .

Then add in 2 knock downs , and i think Tyson was actually lucky to get a draw , was it a good performance , yes it was , , considering the lay off and the weight issue , ect ect ect ,, i would go has far as to call it a great performance ,

But was it a winning performance , i don't think so ,,, great performance , but you don't win championship bouts in the other guys yard by stealing you have to win clearly

Will there be a rematch i doubt it ,, I don't believe Tyson will want it again on USA soil , and i doubt very much if Wilder will come to the UK , , I still see AJ beating Tyson , i think in a rematch Wilder beats Tyson , Aj is a better boxer than Wilder and will connect a lot more often and do the same damage .

AJ -- Wilder ,,, toss a coin whoever lands first

so the champ gets a head start on the cards? how many points then mate, does the champ start up by 3 maybe ?

and besides they actually announced fury second, and as lineal champ, so who had to take what

Wilder had the belt, and he still does so...

I thought Fury won but a draw could be possible as the first 3 RDS were close RDS then the knock downs what I can't understand is the Mexican judge who only gave fury a few RDS ...I can get a tight split decision for fury with one judge having it a draw

I was surprised by that.. But then IU thought about it, I don't think he was announced second because he's Lineal champ..

I just think there was a simple agreement that Wilder enters the ring last and Fury get's announced last. :maybe:

Its not about cliches ( you have to rip the belt from the champ sort of thing). Its a matter of scoring each round by judges on an agreed criteria. Looking at the scorecards, and scoring the fight by using the majority result in each round ( that is if 2 judges score the round 10-9, and the other 9-10, then the majority scoring counts) Fury wins the fight convincingly.
The Mexican judge was simply either incompetent or corrupt. Nobody , that means nobody, scored all those early rounds for Wilder. I don't believe even Wilder looking back on the fight today could agree with that judge.
Phil Edwards was determined not to be biased and as he realised he was scoring a lot of rounds to Fury thought he'd better even things up a bit and awarded the 7th to Wilder when clearly it was a Fury round.
I say again, when employing 3 judges the best thing is to take the 'majority' scoring for each round, and what that does is take out incompetent/corrupt official.
I don't recall any journalist actually investigating the background of the judges being used for these critical contests.
In this country we don't have the problem. Our judges are current top level referees. Elsewhere that's not the case. In Nevada for example all you need to do is show an interest in boxing and become friends with an official and your halfway there.
What has happened for example to that 'clown' who scored the first Alvarez v Golovkin fight? I bet you she's now back judging and all is forgiven.

I've never understood this argument of having to 'do more' or 'rip the belt away from the champion'. It's nonsense. You have to beat the champion, that's all. A belt holder shouldn't receive any gifts just because he has the belt, unless you want a Klitschko era belts being held hostage scenario.

Do Man City get a couple of goals leeway in each premier league game this season because they're the defending champions?

I had Wilder winning three 10-9 rounds the two 10-8 rounds. I had it a draw.

I'm not a fan of Fury's style.

Like gilgamesh says; it's amazing this type of performance is deemed as some kind of masterclass. He's not as elusive as he thinks he is, makes alot of mistakes, he got away with them to an extent, still got dropped twice. His offence and punch technique are so poor.

I'm glad he got a draw purely for his efforts in 9-12, but I'm failing to see the so-called "boxing lesson" or clinic he put on.

CORRECT ,,, You have to beat the champ , and running not being pro active and aggresive , is not the way to beat an american champ in america , where to start with traditionaly, there judges favor agresion , it was a great fight for Tyson but there were simply too many 50-50 rnds , where no one landed much of any value .And the 2 knockdowns cost him the fight .

This whole "you have to rip a champs belt off" bollocks is total BS and unique to boxing. It's a sport, for one fighter to beat another you should just have to win within the rules. Fury isn't the type of fighter to go to war and why should he?

If Arsenal beat I dunno, reigning FA Cup champs Chelsea by a boring, defensive 1-0, Arsenal win the FA Cup... not Chelsea

Terrible judging - even some of the boys I know down the gym who gave fury no chance at all and backed wilder from day one say there is absolutely no way wilder won that fight

I know that means f all, but point being even wilder backers are saying that it was furys fight

You ain't gotta rip no belts, you gotta box better, and Tyson did, a divvy man can see Tyson boxed better and that the belt should've bin coming home with him

Fair play to wilder he did do better than I reckoned but I don't book him as no winner

People can say what they want , but the facts are , its always been that way , you just don't go into a champs backyard and say , i'm gonna box your ears off and take your belt UNLESS you are willing to engage and land punches .

Ok Fury done very well to negate Wilder , he slipped , ducked , dived , used footwork , and made Wilder miss an awful lot , BUT he did'nt go forward and try to win convincingly , his main focus was not get hit , when it should of been hit Wilder more ,, , like i said there were TOO MANY close rnds , where who do you give them to , the guy who's dancing and not getting hit , and landing ineffective punches , or the guy who's going forward wanting to hit ,

Let me remind people what a scoring punch is , its a EFFECTIVE Blow , landed with the knuckle part of the glove , on the scoring part of the body , with the weight of the shoulder behind it ,, a jab running backwards , does'nt really count . ESPECIELLY in America , where they traditionaly favor aggresion , and ESPECIELLY with a mexican judge , we all know the mexicans love aggresion

Did Tyson fight well course he did , but he got dropped twice thats 4 points he lost ,, and there were TOO MANY RNDS where although he did'nt get hit , he did'nt do much either . personaly , on the day i actually called a draw , went to the bog at the end , and my mates all said , did you know something we did'nt , my answer was , i had him up closely , but that last knockdown , evened it up or cost him .

Heh its boxing , its subjective , and its only an opinion , I'm not gonna cry for any boxer who just got paid millions for a few months work , and gonna get paid many more millions in the near future , it is what it is , next time , he'll have to be more aggresive if he wants to win , or do it in the UK where he will be assured of a win , Tyson lost a couple of rnds 10-8 , he won a few rnds clearly 10-9 , but like i said there were TOO MANY 50-50 rnds , a draw was fair

Yes , I've never understood this ripping away bollox .
If you win , you win and Fury definitely won that fight in my eyes .
I gave Wilder a share of round 2 , then you've got the two 10/8 rounds and that was his lot .
I've always been a bit anti Fury , but he did great .

So I'm guessing you're related to the Mexican judge? I guess swinging and missing catching nothing but air for the first eight rounds is worth more than all the jabs, body shots, uppercuts, etc that Fury landed?

Yeah... I'll take Mike Tyson's word on this that Fury won 10 of 12 rounds... Lennox Lewis, Floyd Mayweather, etc all said Fury won the fight and it's not even close.

Wladimir Klitschko got dropped three times against Samuel Peter and still won the decision. If one guy is out boxing you easily, you need 4 knockdowns in 12 rounds to get a draw. Or have people forgotten how to do math?

This paints a false picture of Fury outlanding Wilder at will. That simply wasn't the case. Fury missed loads himself and the punches that landed, sucked.

I will happy lead the plaudits and cheerleading where Furys heart is concerned. Watching him get up off the canvas in round 12 gave me goosebumps, but his boxing performance is being seriously overrated - there just wasn't enough offence from Fury and his knock downs came from defensive mistakes.

Well, that's just your opinion, man!

And quite honestly it's a pretty pretty pretty... pretty clueless one.

Facts are:

The first knockdown was a slump from an irregular, grazing punch ON THE BACK of the top of the head. But it doesn't matter, it was counted as a regular knockdown.

The second knockdown was after a hard landing left right combination that put fury on his ass & out. How he got back to his senses & scrapped himself off the canvas back up on his feet in time... god knows.

Despite those two clear rounds for him, Deontay Wilder objectively just didn't win enough rounds to win the fight. This is not a matter of opinion, it's a fact.

Everybody who actually followed the fight & scored it without bias knows that tyson fury won that fight.

If you deem it a quite close win or a rather wide one depends upon how many of the rounds that could objectively & possibly be given to wilder one actually gives to him.

Fact is: Objectively & reasonably observed you can possibly only come to the one conclusion that Tyson Fury definitely won that fight.

If you score it for wilder, you are definitely & objectively wrong.

so what! nobody is perfect! watch it again, maybe this time you get it right!

I look forward to watching this fight back this weekend. I'll make a note of every single noteworthy moment throughout the fight, and rescore it.

I'm prepared to have a different score if indeed I see something I didn't see the first time, but I doubt that'll be the case. With all the hubbub though it's worth a 2nd look.

I felt that Wilder was cream-crackered during the late rounds, and had it gone to 15 he'd have been stopped from exhaustion. But so what, right — it was a 12-rounder. I had several drawn rounds where I felt neither landed anything of note, but Wilder was burning more energy to stay on even terms. Khanesque at times.

If no-one lands but one guy rocks and rolls while the other ferrets around the ring like a scalded cat, it's still a drawn round, despite the possible ramifications of energy conservation down the road. My impression was that Fury controlled large portions of the fight when he wasn't on the canvas, but control doesn't equate to punches landed. A win on points is a win, even when the victor was made to work much harder to squeak through, so I picked Wilder.

Wilder disappointed me on the backfoot, though. We all know he doesn't punch as hard when he's backed up, but this was the first time I saw worry on his face, and at times he held his gloves in front of his face like an absolute novice. Joshua would've stopped him for doing that.

Yeah its the same talk that we got after the wlad fight which he barely won. This time he didn't get away with trying to nick a fight. There was no boxing lesson here and a draw is nowhere near a robbery. I think fury, after getting put down twice in separate rounds away from home can consider himself lucky to have got the draw. Wilder only needs to win 4 rounds of the remaining 10 to get the victory. When you have fury trying to nick rounds and making them very close, its actually embarrassing to call this a robbery.

Do you actually think Fury didn't deserve to win, or just that he couldn't expect to?

I disagree with the former, but the latter is probably right enough.

Stuff like being the champion shouldn't effect the scoring, but I get that it does. A draw doesn't bother me as much as that shitty Wilder card. That said I think Fury still had rust in the first few rounds, and gassed by the last few, so I think he has a better performance in him. If he only avoided one of the knockdowns he would have won. In other words, I see no reason Fury couldn't go to America again, and win more clearly.
