Rahman has a knockout win over a prime Lennox Lewis I don't see people arguing he belongs in the hall of fame. A great win can generally only take you so far without resume depth.
As far as Hamed goes, I don't know if he should be in the HOF but there are less accomplished guys presently in.

I wouldn't vote for hamed, but he's definitely more deserving than the least deserving current member....vitali.

Re: 'Prince' Naseem Hamed: Best win?
Clearly you don't know the Vitali rule. Since he was ahead on the official scorecards, he actually won the Byrd and Lewis fights. (This rule is not be used for any other fighter)
Plus Bowe was before cojimar's time as a fan, so he doesn't count. But Vitali was, so he counts.
Hamed's resume is thin. Barrera was by far his best opponent and he lost. He certainly is not the worst fighter in, but he should not be in.

He was down 1-0 to Corrie Sanders.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑03 Dec 2018, 12:24He was never behind on any of scorecardsAmbling Alp II wrote: ↑03 Dec 2018, 12:17 Clearly you don't know the Vitali rule. Re: 'Prince' Naseem Hamed: Best win?
Sorry if you feel the the thread was hijacked.
Let's get back to Hamed.
I don't think Hamed really much in the best win category.
Barrera was by far his best opponent and he lost.
Vazquez had the best career of anyone he beat but was well past it by the time he fought Hamed.
I guess you go with Kelly. He was a good fighter, who was probably a little past his best when he fought Hamed. Hamed won but was knocked down several times.

Re: 'Prince' Naseem Hamed: Best win?
Don't actually mind him being in the HOF, was a real star at his peak and influenced a generation of boxers to take up the sport, he was an exciting fighter that beat some good lads and raised the profile of the sport (at least in uk)
Re: 'Prince' Naseem Hamed: Best win?
Of course he should be in its hall of FAME. And Naz was massively famous. Accomplishment-wise he ruled a division for five years and unified beating every other champ. Yes he lost to Barrera but Jesus, has there ever been a more legacy damaging defeat? it's not as if Barrera isn't an all-time great. If Gatti gets in then naz surely does. I think it's also worth noting that he changed the entire wage structure of the sport for the little guys, they all owe him a debt of gratitude

Gatti certainly doesn't belong. Hamed blatantly ducked Marquez. That's not ruling a division.
Re: 'Prince' Naseem Hamed: Best win?
Ok, he ruled for a time. Five years is a long time to stay top of the tree, and he was ko'ing some decent fighters before jmm emerged and mab stepped up. So on that note, would you disqualify riddick bows on the grounds of ducking?Onetimeonly wrote: ↑04 Dec 2018, 18:36 Gatti certainly doesn't belong. Hamed blatantly ducked Marquez. I'd absolutely disqualify Ruddock bowe from ruling the division. I wouldn't vote for hamed because his record is shallow.Steveh583 wrote: ↑04 Dec 2018, 18:54Ok, he ruled for a time. Re: 'Prince' Naseem Hamed: Best win?
Naz beat some good fighters. Medina went on to beat two more titles. McCullough, Kelly, Johnson, Vasquez were good names. Ingle went on to win the IBF. bungu wasn't a bad win. Problem is there's no signature win. He's missing that elite level name on his record.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑04 Dec 2018, 19:08I'd absolutely disqualify Ruddock bowe from ruling the division. Yeah, it's not bums by any stretch. I dont categorize him with guys like vitality and gatti who have no business in the hof. I don't see how he should get in over someone like curry and he's marginal to me.
Re: 'Prince' Naseem Hamed: Best win?
I agree tbh, but as I said it's a hall of fame, not necessarily achievement or ability. And he def brought excitement and attentionOnetimeonly wrote: ↑04 Dec 2018, 19:25 Yeah, it's not bums by any stretch. Hall of fame is much better than hall of greatest as far as wording. It's meant to be the best of the best.

His best wasn't as good as Curry's but his worst wasn't as bad. That's a close one for me but I wouldn't vote either. There's around 20-25 guys who don't belong in the IBHOF and Hamed is one of them.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑04 Dec 2018, 19:25 Yeah, it's not bums by any stretch. Re: IBHOF. Rafa should get announced today. I'm going to make my maiden voyage there in 2020 when a certain older brother of Rafa gets his call next year
Re: 'Prince' Naseem Hamed: Best win?
His best win is definitely Kevin Kelley. Aided by the fact that it was a truly spectacular fight. Though you could argue that Manuel Medina was the better opponent to have defeated because he had longer run of success at a pretty high level than Kelley did.
Barrera was unquestionably his best opponent.
Barrera was unquestionably his best opponent.
Re: 'Prince' Naseem Hamed: Best win?
His best win was probably Kelley. First fight in the US, on the floor 2 (technically 3) times.
My favourite performance of his was Badillo in Sheffield. Was outstanding that night. Pity he got too big for his boots and left Ingle because he had the talent to achieve so much more although he did have a great career regardless..

No arsing about and a conventional boxing performance against Badillo? I seem to remember Naz basically spending an entire round dancing?orbtastic wrote: ↑01 Dec 2018, 10:43 I think his best performance was Badillo, no arsing about and a conventional boxing performance where he looked pretty untouchable.
Obviously him starching Kelly, Johnson, Vazquez, Bungo etc at a higher level is more impressive but he looked better beating Badillo.
His best KO was probably one of the last ones of his on ITV before he moved to SKY. I think the dude at Shepton Mallet or somewhere like that. Dropped him with a great combo and finished it with one punch, the guy looked dead.
Re: 'Prince' Naseem Hamed: Best win?
I saw it live and don’t remember that. I just meant he boxed conventionally and didn’t dance about with his hands by his side or any of the antics in previous or future fights.
