Jack Reiss explains why he didn’t wave Tyson Fury off
xplaining his decision, Reiss said the high-profile nature of the contest played a part in allowing Fury every chance.
“If there was earlier, heavier damage and (Fury) had been hurt. Then he fell like that and hit his head, I would have waived it off. But the fight was so close. The magnitude of the fight, I’ve always been taught to count a champion out,” Reiss told Sirius XM Boxing Radio in the aftermath.
“I wanted to give him every opportunity, so I took my time. Not that I stalled the count like these knuckleheads are saying.
“I was patient and I went down to make sure what I was doing was correct. I want to do what’s best for boxing and I always want to do what’s best for boxing,” he added.

He also explained why he asked Fury to walk left and right, this was advice from head specialists that it's harder for someone with concussion to move sidewards than it is to walk forwards. Makes sense.

It's nice to see a ref in any sport getting credit for doing a good job.
Usually the only time refs in any sport are being discussed it's not a positive conversation.

Top referee, real fan of his no-nonsense style. Petrov v Diaz springs to mind

I appreciate his explanation, although there was no need for it.

Yeah, but I mean what constitutes calling it off then? Fury stumbled when he walked sideways. Don't get me wrong he clearly recovered, and handled himself marvelously down the stretch so ultimately it was the right call to let him continue, but he definitely stumbled a bit on the walk to the side.Controversial wrote: ↑05 Dec 2018, 08:22 He also explained why he asked Fury to walk left and right, this was advice from head specialists that it's harder for someone with concussion to move sidewards than it is to walk forwards. He hasn;t been hurt like that in the previous rounds. If he had, and then was dropped like this, he would have stopped it.gilgamesh wrote: ↑05 Dec 2018, 11:28Yeah, but I mean what constitutes calling it off then? Fury stumbled when he walked sideways. I don't think he stumbled. If the ref thought his brain was scrambled I'm sure he would've stopped it. It turned out he made the right decision, Wilder caught him shortly after they started fighting again and Fury took it ok, if he was in anyway unsteady he would've gone down again.gilgamesh wrote: ↑05 Dec 2018, 11:28Yeah, but I mean what constitutes calling it off then? I would've won enough $ to pay for xmas if he waived it off - but no sour grapes for me, it was excellent by the ref.

Hard to take the cries of robbery seriously. For it be a robbery you would have to be absolutely adament Fury won rounds such as 1, 2, 4, 5, 7 CLEARLY. Somewhat difficult when the guy is landing close to nothing.

Any objective observer that understands the rules of the sport would claim that Jack Reiss behaved properly. Unfortunately only die-hard Wilder fans believe otherwise.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑05 Dec 2018, 07:46 xplaining his decision, Reiss said the high-profile nature of the contest played a part in allowing Fury every chance.
