Why is it so hard to believe?. . . . The media reports of the day repeatedly that 300 million viewers PAID to watch in theaters across the globe. . . . http://www.ibhof.com/pages/archives/alifrazier.htmlOnetimeonly wrote: ↑05 Dec 2018, 17:52Lol, you're quite the dunce.actjac wrote: ↑05 Dec 2018, 17:28No. . . .the media of the day clearly said that it was paid viewers in theaters around the world. 300,000,000.

That was closed circuit tv and relatively cheap compared to today's high priced PPV's. You had to go to a theatre to watch.
It's simply not true that 300 million people paid to see it. I think it was around 2 million in the USA. Try to put your thinking cap on.actjac wrote: ↑05 Dec 2018, 18:16Why is it so hard to believe?. . . . It's not true because YOU think its not true?. . . . New York Daily News, New York Post, Time Magazine, International Hall of Fame, New York Times and Sports Illustrated ALL say that there were 300 million paid viewers in theaters around the world. . . . Yet YOU are the authority?. . . . Is it because you have been conditioned to believe that boxing is a niche and minor sport?. In 1971 this event was the biggest event of ALL time covered as the LEAD story by every media outlet, front page of every newspaper and discussed at every coffee shop, water cooler, bar and deli everywhere. Muhammad Ali was THE most famous person in the world at the time. . . .bigger than the president, the Queen or the Pope.. . . .Try to put THAT in YOUR thinking cap!Onetimeonly wrote: ↑05 Dec 2018, 18:18It's simply not true that 300 million people paid to see it. The media reports all used the term PAID when discussing viewers in theaters. . . .Do you think that movie theaters would just open their doors and let customers in free?. . . . The event was not available to free home television.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑05 Dec 2018, 18:43 Boxing was a massive sport then. 300 million people watched it, they didn't all pay for it. You just don't understand much of anything. Nobody in Mexico has EVER paid for a canelo fight.
Cost $5 - 15.00 per tx at theatres. Imagine that!?actjac wrote: ↑05 Dec 2018, 18:46The media reports all used the term PAID when discussing viewers in theaters. . . .Do you think that movie theaters would just open their doors and let customers in free?. . . . At the time of the event that would of been just shy of 10% of Earths population.oogiebe wrote: ↑05 Dec 2018, 18:49Cost $5 - 15.00 per tx at theatres. Click the link and read for yourself. There were also stadiums that showed the fight. It doesn't sound crazy to me at all.tiny_acres wrote: ↑05 Dec 2018, 19:08At the time of the event that would of been just shy of 10% of Earths population.
There is not enough theater seating to accommodate those type of numbers.
It's an impossibility
I already read it.oogiebe wrote: ↑05 Dec 2018, 19:10Click the link and read for yourself. There were also stadiums that showed the fight. It doesn't sound crazy to me at all.tiny_acres wrote: ↑05 Dec 2018, 19:08At the time of the event that would of been just shy of 10% of Earths population.

You're not suspicious that 3% or so of that figure comes from the states?oogiebe wrote: ↑05 Dec 2018, 19:10Click the link and read for yourself. There were also stadiums that showed the fight. No one is even commenting about Ali and Frazier splitting 5 million.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑05 Dec 2018, 19:51You're not suspicious that 3% or so of that figure comes from the states?oogiebe wrote: ↑05 Dec 2018, 19:10Click the link and read for yourself.
