Fury not only needs props for getting up but also for winning the rest of the round.

Yeah. This is why it was sad to see him shaking his head to his corner and staying down for the count vs Smith.
In all fairness to Groves I think it was the bodyshot which creased him and made him unable to make the count against Smith, that's what he said and TBH I believe him after watching it again, similar to Linares against Lomachenko, I remember Malignaggi saying after getting done to the body from Eggington that if the count had been to 15 he would've been perfect but that last few seconds just take the wind right out of you

In fairness Groves was never given the chance and in world title fights you should at least let them get up and look in their eyes.

Of course Groves is going to say that. He is not going to say I just quit is he?

tommy morrison may not have been a great fighter but that left hook of his was dynamite. actually a very fun and explosive puncher albeit highly flawed

His main flaws were in his motivation problems and chin. Skill-wise and from the technical side he was very good.

The fastest i have ever seen anyone get up from a massive knockdown is Judah against Tyszu. He got clocked heavy, planked straight down on his back, then literally sprang up of the canvas within 1 second, albiet his legs were jelly, but he was up and desperate to continue, but his head could not control his legs and that was all she wrote.

I had a lot of money on JMM points - stilll feel cheated now.
I’m fact - I’m going back to the “robbery” thread with that one - was a scandal :brick:
Amazing how he got up and WON.

Cowdell one was good, (thanks for the vid), but the best comeback I ever saw - Kellly “The Ghost” Pavlik bs Jermain “Bad Intentions” Taylor.
I'm pretty sure was in the process of pulling a face at Taylor when Taylor fired into him.

I remember the bantamweight fella from Panama climbing up two or three times against an unbeaten Nicaraguan to win the WBO title a few years back but one that really sticks in my mind is Korea's Soo-Hwan Hong coming back from the dead against Hector Carrasquilla in 1977 to win the WBA super-bantamweight title.

George was scratching his ear with his foot!!
There are plenty of refs who would have stopped it and quite justifiably too.
However Fury proved the ref right.
You're not wrong, that's how fine the margins are sometimes. Imagine if that had happened.

Shannon Briggs in the Lewis fight, the second knockdown in round five. He looked a done deal and had a lot of weight and muscle to drag up.

I don't like how some refs don't give fighters the opportunity to get up, instead they try and pin them to the floor.
If their a medical reason they do this? Or is it to save their own face?

Isn't it because of this in the UK?: 3.33.3 A Referee shall have the power to interrupt the count where he considers that a fallen Boxer is in need of urgent medical attention and in such cases the opponent shall be declared the winner by a technical count out (T.C.O.).

The WBA say the ref should be a arm's length from a fighter when counting but I'm sure they have the discretion to make sure a fighter stays on the canvas if they think it is a particularly bad knockout and will require medical attention.

I have seen some extreme cases where the boxer is desperately trying to get up and the ref rugby tackles them to the floor.
Give them a chance to get up, see if they are steady on their feet and look in their eyes before making the decision.
Especially if it's a world title fight and you are winning.

A bit of the old limelight logging maybe? If the referee has made his decision they will try to keep the fighter down if they think the doctor is needed. On the other hand, some of them are just incompetent.

I don't think anyone thought Froch would stay down,it's not like he landed flat on his back or face down.

He was much more affected than Fury was in the end, it took him a couple of rounds to really shake that knock down.
