Is Tyson Fury a draw now?
When Tyson Fury first returned from drug abuse and weight gain it seemed like his popularity had grown in his absence, but then his numbers haven't been stellar.
Having drawn with Wilder there is a lot of chatter on here about him and the discussion of money split should a Joshua fight happen has been mentioned on a few threads.
When it comes to the money a boxer is paid for a big contest, it is generally a reflection of the money they generate, especially when they don't have a title to offer.
Will this apparent popularity actually translate into sales?

I hold judgement on whether it translates to people through the turnstiles. Well known, seemingly popular, but also not overly exciting. Punchstats from the Wilder fight are piss poor, but drama was high.
I have to say, take the two knockdowns out of the fight, especially the Undertaker one, and it was not such a great fight.

If he couldn't sell, I don't see why he had all the multi million pound offers from every major promotional company on his return. People are just very quick to believe Eddie hearns narrative. He always sold pre wlad, then fought away from home, and as far as I can tell the comebacks done ok. People just love a target, especially AJ groupies.

Fury has never been much of a draw, and I doubt he’s much closer now.
Did they ever confirm how many tickets were sold for the Wlad rematch? Looked like about 80% of the tickets were still available before it all fell apart.

Hearn narrative makes me sick. The LA fight was proper old school, a throwback and I actually do not know what Hearn has been saying BUT, the comeback fights where not huge sellers, nor did they pull in huge TV numbers did they? The Wlad rematch was not selling.Steveh583 wrote: ↑09 Dec 2018, 07:13 If he couldn't sell, I don't see why he had all the multi million pound offers from every major promotional company on his return. I am a fan of him btw, but that does not cause bias and so I will wait to see what future numbers do. I suspect the probable next fight will pull stonking figures though. Rematch would be massive or an AJ fight will be huge too.

The rematch with Wlad Klitschko wasn't selling.
I would also say that the comebacks have done 'ok' but doing okay isn't what qualifies a boxer as an attraction.
The first comeback fight would have been his best seller I imagine as it was vastly boosted by the curiosity factor but there were plenty of empty seats.
The second contest, I dare say he added to the attendance but a Frampton fight at Windsor park was what sold that event.
Perhaps you believe that I am an 'AJ groupie' but the only relevance he has to this discussion is that he is a draw, possibly the biggest draw in boxing (Alvarez?).

The Wilder fight has disappointing PPV figures and didn't sell out the arena. Tyson Fury is not a big draw and it's understandable; boring in the ring and a clown/tw4t outside of the ring.
The rematch might be bigger and the AJ fight would be huge, though with AJ as the main attraction of course .

Re: Is Tyson Fury a draw now?
I’ve bought tickets for Fury 3 Times. Against Chisora, Haye and the Wlad rematch. Two of those fights didn’t happen and one was so boring we left before it finished. I’m very pleased for the lad but i’d be hesitant shelling out to see him again.

Both comeback fights sold very well and Sefari was the biggest subscription channel audience until Khan beat it.tobyh5 wrote: ↑09 Dec 2018, 07:21Hearn narrative makes me sick. I would say it had grown, especially when he is talking about mental health(with sincerity) he is reaching iut to people and making them believe they can walk down the street with anxiety,if they are depressed he is showing them there is light at the end of the tunnel. I never used to like tyson fury but over the past 12 months i have grown to like him,he is an inspiration to alot of people and i love how he has turned his life around.

A good few to be fairleejonesjnr wrote: ↑09 Dec 2018, 08:46How many people do you think would pay to watch a rematch that didn’t pay to see the first?
Still get millions of streamers and people who watch on YouTube/daily motion
But wouldn't be surprised at all to see the rematch do a good few more buys
The intrigue over the result is there, that, with what will likely be another interesting build up, dragging the result up and causing rows, will sell well imo

I think that his story of redemption is a good one. I am a fan again. But, I have always been more of a fan of his marketing skills than his fights.
Fury should make the AJ fight happen next. The Wilder rematch, while lucrative, is still not as big as fighting AJ, and it will be there after AJ stops him.

I wouldn’t call them disappointing numbers at all.. it broke even well.. there was no loss. Everyone was paid handsomely.Quantrax wrote: ↑09 Dec 2018, 07:55 The Wilder fight has disappointing PPV figures and didn't sell out the arena. There was over 17,000 in attendance.. let’s not forget ticket prices were highly and PPV cost $75.
Re: Is Tyson Fury a draw now?
I'd say he was always a draw. There's always been big interest surrounding him. He's one of the biggest characters we've had on these shores...
Re: Is Tyson Fury a draw now?
Yup, furys always had big interest
Re: Is Tyson Fury a draw now?
I was talking with my mates the other day, all of whom are casual fans, and they all want to attend the rematch if it's held over here. They're all big Fury fans and more so now after last weekend...
Re: Is Tyson Fury a draw now?
Tyson has appeared on five, itv4, allegedly sky, Btsport. That just doesn't happen if you don't generate the £££leejonesjnr wrote: ↑09 Dec 2018, 07:33He always sold pre Wlad? Re: Is Tyson Fury a draw now?
We had exactly the same thread after the Wlad fight, and then they hardly sold any tickets for the rematch before it got binned completely. The fact that the Wilder fight didn’t actively lose money doesn’t mean that Fury is now suddenly a draw.

Re: Is Tyson Fury a draw now?
And like I said on a similar thread - why are Fury fans so weirdly obsessive/delusional and keep pretending that he’s a heavyweight Mayweather who commands similar money to Joshua? Can’t you all just enjoy him for what he is, instead of spinning these fantasies?
Re: Is Tyson Fury a draw now?
Doesn't draw like AJ yet, but he's light years more of a draw then before the Wilder fight.
