The 29-year-old former Queensland heavyweight title holder was found dead in his Manila hotel room on November 30 and his cause of death is not yet known.
Adam King, a long-time friend and promoter at the gym where Clifton trained, Corporate Box Gym, said a mate who was travelling with the boxer raised the alarm.
A former soldier, Clifton served in the Australian Army and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2012, where he sustained serious injuries. Clifton could hardly walk unassisted when he returned home to Brisbane five years ago.
Clifton was forced to undergo two operations and months of rehab as a result of the crushed bones and cartilage in his hips, he told Nine News back in 2016.
Clifton rediscovered his love of boxing and used it as part of his rehabilitation before exploding onto the competitive scene in 2014. Just two years later he would take on Australian pro boxer Willie Nasio for the Australian heavyweight title in 2016.
