Croatia apparently wins % of population viewing a fight. Someone posted that 46% of Croatian viewers watched Hrgovic.oogiebe wrote: ↑11 Dec 2018, 17:54It's not a race between buys/% of population for countries, we're discussing total buys/revenue. For PPV in US in this day and age.. it’s a decent number.Controversial wrote: ↑11 Dec 2018, 17:57PPV number is the title of the thread, they are pretty poor IMOoogiebe wrote: ↑11 Dec 2018, 17:54It's not a race between buys/% of population for countries, we're discussing total buys/revenue. I know mate your bang on, it does my tits in, I suppose because of social media we have more time to get into things in more detail but can you imagine in the days of Robinson, Ali, Leonard, Duran and Co, waffling on about promoters and channels?Stuarty wrote: ↑10 Dec 2018, 20:32 We live in an age where we have to look at all the shíte behind the scenes because of the way things are played out! It's not just boxing either. I'm a football fan and when I was younger I couldn't have told you the names of any of the top clubs owners! Nowadays they're all more or less household fuckin names!

Many of the new generation of kids in the USA have not become boxing fans over the last 15-20 years. There are just too many "distractions" for kids in America to sway them away from watching boxing: Pro football, college football, pro basketball, college basketball, MLB, MMA fighting, tennis, curling ( kidding ), world championship poker, Youtube and Instagram, iphones, mobile devices; coupled with a ga-zillion video games they can play on their Xboxes and Play stations, and Fornite too!! The list goes on and on....Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑10 Dec 2018, 15:04 He forgets the UK, although smaller than USA, is much more passionate about boxing than the US.. also the price difference..
Had the fight taken place in the UK and UK prime time, it would have done really well, not that it didn’t.
Also, already worked out, 325k buys in the US, based on the revenue generated, it equivalent to around 1m UK buys.
Ever since USA Tuesday Nights Fights went the way of the buggy whip, boxing in the USA has been on the decline. Plus the asking price of a PPV even is not your standard $19.95 anymore, but instead in upwards of $79.95, that alone will cause semi-interested sports fans to stay away.
Just go out on the streets and ask a few average teens if they know who Deontay Wilder. Or Anthony Joshua, or Tyson Fury.
I'm sure you'll most likely get these answers: "Who?" and "Who?" and "Oh, you mean Mike Tyson?!"

It’s kinda why I like PBC using FOX and in the past they used NBC.. fights were peaking 5m views. Might all be hardcore boxing fans. But you get the point. More views!
Re: Hearn: Wilder-Fury PPV Number is Terrible, Absolutely Terrible
Add to all that , the bullshit scoring , the ducking , the diving , the dodgeing , the promoters promoting themselves to be bigger stars than the boxers , and the well documented ppv , and even people like myself who have spent a lifetime in boxing in one form or another , well i find it hard to get interested , anymore , i definetly don't buy the ppv UNLESS there a fight and a very rare fight that i don't want to risk getting a bad stream ,
I bought Canelo - GGG , i bought Fury - Wilder , will i buy Chisora -Whyte or Aj -White , will i bollocks

Considering the PPV was $75 here in the USA whereas the UK had it $25, and the fact that EVERYBODY ran down the fight saying it wouldn't be competitive or fun or entertaining--- especially from the mouth of Mr Hearn--- 300,000 buys is damned good considering Americans are just not passionate about boxing, especially the Heavyweight division which has been considered "piss poor" since the 90s.
Fury was more beloved and welcome in America than Wilder was--- which speaks volumes about the state of American audiences. The general public has no clue who Wilder is unless you said, "Remember that boxer who beat up that internet troll Charlie Zelenoff?"
Hearn's having sour grapes because the Wilder/Fury rematch may happen in the United Kingdom and upstage Joshua's next defense. Warren has been so bold as to say he'll book the rematch the same day as April 13th, Joshua's next defense. This makes me remember the WWF/WCW wars.

Yeah, that's what I meant: that it was seen as a bit fancy at the time. Making us pay to follow his roadsweeper tour, as he earned good money while freezing out Benn from the third fight he wanted.
We were lucky to have Sky from '95-'01, and I remember Naz's career vanishing to PPV. I think we saw a couple of his fights after Molina and Johnson (both PPV), and that was it.

Nobody fancied it. Not one of them. It was one big publicity stunt. Why would anyone want it then? Why split a $50m pot now, when you can split a $100m pot later, and still be earning good money in the meantime?MF DOOM wrote: ↑11 Dec 2018, 11:42Or maybe when there was a good chance of making the big one someone didn't fancy it?Coco wrote: ↑11 Dec 2018, 10:50I guess he is willing to take big money for the smaller fights while believing the bigger fights will come.MF DOOM wrote: ↑11 Dec 2018, 10:43
At the moment AJ is getting the biggest cut of nothing.
The point I was making is that you can't boast about being the biggest or only draw in town then claim it isn't your fault that you failed to make the biggest fight out there. Whyte 2, Miller and then Pulev doesn't represent a great 2019 for him and if Wilder-Fury do have a rematch and the outcome is definitive it will take a lot of shine away from him.
Hearn is looking to maximise his earnings, banking the bigger fights will come for maximum money.
Obv there is a chance of him missing the boat, but he does have the belts.
They're business people. It's not great for fans, but it makes them rich. They'll make the fight the second they feel casual interest is at a high enough level. Until then, Joshua's side don't want it, nor do Wilder's side.

300k or 325k US PPV buys is a good result for that fight IMO
Re: Hearn: Wilder-Fury PPV Number is Terrible, Absolutely Terrible
I think Wilder definitely wanted it. If he didn't want a big fight he'd have given Fury a miss too.Deleted_Scenes wrote: ↑12 Dec 2018, 03:29Nobody fancied it. Not one of them.
