PPVS in 2018
After December 22nd there would have been a total of 13 ppvs in the uk in 2018 6 from sky 3 from bt and 4 from itv. if you paid for all of them it would have cost £220. so what does everyone think of this? was they worth the money if you paid or do you stream? I know in America they have to pay a lot more. Also, if you think 13 is a lot then its probably going to be worse next year as sky and bt will probably do 6 each and itv are with pbc so they will do a few again plus the wbss finals
Re: PPVS in 2018
I've watched all but 2 (holiday and ill).
I'll have to choose on Dec 22nd.

I’d be interested to know the full list. Think I attended a couple and bought a couple, but can’t really remember what was PPV and what wasn’t tbh, all blurs into one these days cos we have so many of them.

Maybe a quarter of them were PPV worthy

Re: PPVS in 2018
Groves vs. Eubank was probably the best that ITV have ever put on.. If you bought that, you had Smith vs. Holkzien half price I think.
Usyk vs Gassiev also on ITV was a big fight, however only for solid boxing fans.
Groves vs. Smith in the final was also a good domestic fight.
6 PPV's from Sky was just toooo much IMO..
Bellew vs. Haye 2 / Usyk
Joshua vs. Parker / Povetkin
Whyte vs. Parker / Chisora 2
Bellew, Whyte and Joshua both had 2 each.. Now that Bellew has retired, I wonder who will replace him.
BT's 3 would be Canelo-GGG 2, Fury vs. Wilder (both after midnight) and Frampton vs. Warrington would be their first at primetime.

Mayweather McGregor doing the biggest numbers of all of them.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑11 Dec 2018, 16:00Groves vs. Eubank was probably the best that ITV have ever put on.. If you bought that, you had Smith vs. Holkzien half price I think.

Edit - Can’t believe it’s been 18 months since that fight!!!

Re: PPVS in 2018
most the itv ppvs were good the smith vs holkzein should have been free imo, Hopefully they stick with £10 a ppv but I got a feeling it will go up now they got this deal with pbc.
6 ppvs from sky is a lot but aj is never not gonna be ppv the bellew haye rematch was always going to be ppv and same with the usyk fight. maybe the whyte parker fight could have been on sky but it turned out to be a very good night of boxing so I suppose the ppv was justified. next year they will probably have 2 aj ppvs again, khan vs brook if it happens, a fight like dillian whyte vs usyk at the end of 2019 and 1 or 2 from America
i suppose bt will try to do at least 4 or 5 next year as well

forgot to say aswell that callum smith will probably headline a couple of sky ppvs next year
Re: PPVS in 2018
I only bought the Groves v Eubank fight.
The others I either watched on YouTube the next morning or on catch up TV a few days later.
Too many ppvs for me now. I used to buy all the ppvs going back many years but enough is enough

Doubt it. Headline Sky Regular shows. Not PPV. Unless it’s GGG, even that’s borderline IMO. But acceptable.Boxing101101 wrote: ↑11 Dec 2018, 16:50

Re: PPVS in 2018
Just because it turned out to be a decent card doesn’t justify it being a PPV. It was only a PPV mostly because of purse demands. Sky wouldn’t shell out more than £1m each.. it’s the same with Whyte-Chisora 2.. both want more money that Sky/Matchroom will pay them so they using us fans to help fund the boxers.Boxing101101 wrote: ↑11 Dec 2018, 16:48 maybe the whyte parker fight could have been on sky but it turned out to be a very good night of boxing so I suppose the ppv was justified.

what i meant was if fans pay and are happy with what they saw then for sky and hearn its justified and they are just gonna put more of them on not great for us fans but its just how it is now unfortuantly.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑11 Dec 2018, 18:26Just because it turned out to be a decent card doesn’t justify it being a PPV. Re: PPVS in 2018
I will go to Warrington-Frampton and buy Whyte-Chisora and try to avoid the result. I got to a tipping point this year where I could no longer justify paying for all the PPVs that are thrown at us.

Sky seem to tightening their belt - losing Spanish and Italian football, and the announcement today that their sponsorship of the cycling team has ended. They pulled the plug on the USPGA event because they wouldn't pay the asking price.
The PPV boxing events are being used I think to shore up their losses, so they will continue and increase next year with possible price rises. I have said before that they are slowly strangling the golden goose and this will become obvious when people see poorer quality match ups at higher prices and eventually stop buying.
I bought one PPV this year ( Wilder v Fury).

They won’t go over £20.. that’s something they’ve always said.. yes, I know it can change.dalcumly wrote: ↑12 Dec 2018, 11:05 Sky seem to tightening their belt - losing Spanish and Italian football, and the announcement today that their sponsorship of the cycling team has ended. I remember FMJ was asking Sky to up their price to at least £50 for his fight vs. McGregor. Sky said no.
Re: PPVS in 2018
I got canelo vs ggg 2 and wilder vs fury,i watched haye vs bellew 2,joshua parker, and whyte vs parker at teh expense of my brother lol. The two i bought were worth the money i spent. If its a fight i want to watch then ill buy but if its a fight that is just thrown together to rip us off im not in.

Re: PPVS in 2018
£220? For 13 nights of decent quality boxing? Not bad value in my book.
On a night out that's a gram of A grade, a solid lash on the ale, followed by a kebab and an hour long assault on a top class brass (in that order)
Luckily for me it ain't that much money and it gives me hours of entertainment and memories.
I can't complain.

Re: PPVS in 2018
Whyte vs Parker with Chisora vs Takam on undercard was one of the most enjoyable nights I've had watching this sport - and the main event imo was FoTY by a distance.
I didn't begrudge paying for Ggg vs Canelo 2 either - i think as far being "ppv worthy contestants" those 2 fit the bill.
Guys like Bellew shoukd never be headlining ppvs though.

Re: PPVS in 2018
The way you gotta look at it is if you went there live it would cost you £40 and upwards just for your ticket thrn you have your ale your taxi there plus food and listening to people who are close by you chat absolute bollox about a sport they know f all about, instead you can pay £20 for the ppv listen to people on tv chat absolute bollox(apart from malignaggi),get a few tinnies in order a take away so you probably get all in for less than the price of a ticket to the venue. Like i said earlier if its a fight i wanna see ill pay it,the BT ppv's upto now have been better than sky's imo.

Re: PPVS in 2018
No way on this earth can Whyte v Parker be justified as PPV. What turned out to be a very entertaining fight between two of Joshua's leftovers, people only look back on the night fondly because of the two big fights that delivered. A show turning out to be entertaining does NOT mean it's justified the PPV status. The whole point of PPV is that it's for fights that can't be made without it; Canelo v GGG, Wilder v Fury and the like. Nobody can convince me that Dillian Whyte is a PPV boxer as long as I have a hole in my arse.

I don't disagree, although i like Whyte, he's never been world champion, and i didn't think much of Parker going into this fight either.Stuarty wrote: ↑13 Dec 2018, 12:00MarkMcBurney wrote: ↑13 Dec 2018, 11:55 No way on this earth can Whyte v Parker be justified as PPV. Was a good night mate yeah. I think that was DelBoys last stand there though. I think Whyte will stop him this time in 8.RKY wrote: ↑13 Dec 2018, 12:16I don't disagree, although i like Whyte, he's never been world champion, and i didn't think much of Parker going into this fight either.Stuarty wrote: ↑13 Dec 2018, 12:00MarkMcBurney wrote: ↑13 Dec 2018, 11:55 No way on this earth can Whyte v Parker be justified as PPV.
