Joe Calzaghe V Gennady Golovkin

Post by OH_RickNMorty »

Calzaghe and Golovkin meet at 165 LBS, and decide to fight it out.

Both fighters are in their primes.

Statistics

CALZAGHE
5’ 11” (Height)
165 LBS (Weight)
73” (Reach)

GOLOVKIN
5’ 10” (Height)
165 LBS (Weight)
70” (Reach)

I believe that Calzaghe would ultimately win this fight by MD or UD. I think Golovkin has a good chance of dropping him once in the mid-later rounds, by Calzaghe would get back up and continue fighting. What do y’all think?!

Calzaghe was better than Golovkin and more adaptable. Maybe early on Golovkin has some success but once Calzaghe turned up the pace he was too fast, too awkward and too energetic.

Calzaghe UD.

Joe for me too, UD, no knockdowns (don't think GGG would catch him )

I adore Golovkin, and never was a big fan of Calzaghe, but this seems like a bad style matchup for GGG. I could see him dropping Joe early, but I think Joe would outwork him for the most part, and take a UD.

I apologise if you believe this is a ‘miss-match’, I did not intent it to be. :D

I wouldn't say it's a mismatch. Golovkin would definitely hold his own in there, I just don't think he'd win.

Can't remember Joe ever fighting below 168. Unless he maybe did in his very early fights?

The weight might be a problem.

I'd back Joe at 168 though.

JC by UD for me as well........and not just because I am a Brit.

Someone mentioned adaptable which I thought was a good point .........Joe and his old man always had a well-researched gameplan and Joe at his best had the span of skills to fight in different ways and nullify or surprise some difficult guys.

The Calazaghes were genuinely smart folk - that's often forgotten a bit - and Joe got smarter as the years rolled-on and when he could not absolutely trust his hands either.
