Junior Fa vs. Rogelio Omar Rossi on Parker-Flores Card on December 15, 2018

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Undefeated Kiwi heavyweight prospect Junior Fa will take on Argentine former world cruiserweight title contender Rogelio Omar Rossi in the main undercard bout of the Joseph Parker v Alexander ‘The Great’ Flores fight night at Christchurch’s Horncastle Arena on December 15.

The giant Fa, who is 15-0 and ranked No. 10 by the WBO, will use the bout to show he deserves a shot at compatriot Parker, the recently deposed WBO heavyweight champion.

“This is a huge opportunity for me for sure,” Fa said from Tuscaloosa, United States, where he is sparring with Deontay Wilder to help the WBC champion prepare for a blockbuster showdown with Tyson Fury on December 1.

“I’m going to grab it with both hands.”

A tricky southpaw, Rossi (20-6-1) challenged Marko Huck for the WBO world cruiserweight title in 2011. He lost that fight after being struck by Huck after the bell in the fifth round.

I think it’s all southpaw’s mostly get described as tricky.

Don't know why Fa doesn't try face Browne for promotion and some money, or even Fujimoto if he wants to get ranked by an org. Both winnable if he's actually any good, otherwise he stands no chance against Parker.

Josh, it irks me to admit this, but Fa isn't any good. I would love to be all patriotic and say Fa is on his way to a title, but he ain't.
It might look good that he has got in better shape physically, and he has compared to 2-3 years ago. It hasn't unfortunately made him a better boxer, if anything, now he is lighter, he seems to hit lighter.
We have seen him fight a couple of times and honestly, when he connects it sounds like a pitty-pat from a minimumweight. :verysad:

Good call. That's a fight I'd like to see although I'm not sure it would have great appeal for "Big Daddy" in terms of risk/reward.

Junior Fa scored a first round knockout over Rogelio Rossu to capture the interim-WBO Oriental heavyweight title.

I really don't fancy Fa as any type of contender. Watched a couple of vids and wasn't very impressed.

I know what you mean but I remember that Fa was two and two with Parker, so he must have something about him.

I know many top amateurs don't make it in the pro game, but I refuse to give up on him just yet ... especially when he's just performed a spectacular demolition job on someone as formidable as a former WBO Cruiserweight title challenger and tricky Argentine southpaw to boot.

Yes that was irony in case anybody wasn't sure :D

parker also lost to 15-6 boxrec #354 mario heredia. and even though fas dining out on the am wins fas am credentials arent really that impressive either, like the one time he beat parker he got kod a few days later in the tournament by some johan linde. didnt really do much beyond the weakish antipode scene

clearly fas not much, i agree hes looking like top 50 at max. hes chinny and will lose hard when he does too. parkers way better then him now.

usyk walked him down and beat him up in wsb too incidentally though no shame there

He's 29 and probably at his prime. He's had sloppy close decision wins over such ATG's as Daneil Tai and Craig Lewis, neither of whom gets mention on these forums. His wins over Parker in the amateurs was 9 and 6 years ago when Parker was 16 and 19 y/o. Watch him fight and you'll never pay much attention to him again. Slow and ponderous and doesn't throw his punches well. Like he never really learned. I know it sounds harsh, but I'm getting sick of how many bad fighters are considered prospects.

I've mentioned both those fighters in previous posts. In connection with Fa and Jermaine Franklin I believe.

He's decent but his lack of stature is a concern. He doesn't have that aggressive all action style like a Tyson, a Tua, or a Cooper that can compensate for his lack of height ... or that's the impression I got from not a great deal of footage it has to be said.

Ha - not a great deal of footage - no pun intended, honest
