WBO Introduces new belt

Post by dagilechia »

The WBO Global. I awaiting the ''WBO Random'' for champions selected randomly, ''WBO Fake'' for fake paper champions, ''WBO Solar System'', ''WBO Milky Way'', ''WBO sponsored'' for those who donate the WBO, ''WBO Almost'' for those who lost vs a chamion in a close bout etc

World, Global, Intercontinental... in fact those words mean the same but for some reasons boxing organization needs to make belts with all of these names.

How about WBO Direct where you pay a sanctioning fee and get a belt right away without having to fight?

I can’t wait for the WBA to go one better by announcing the use of an allegedly “prestigious” new “Planet Earth” championship.

The sport of boxing has clearly already deteriorated to the level of vanity-related contests, such as bodybuilding and beauty pageants, because it won’t be long until the sports’ governing bodies introduce even more titles, such as: earth, galaxy, universe, olympia etc.

What "world" titles do we already have?

• Recess
• Emeritus
• Lineal
• RING
• Emerald
• Onyx
• Eternal
• Silver
• Interim
• Regular
• Diamond
• Global
• Unified
• Undisputed
• Super

I’ve possibly excluded a few! :brick:

Some of those are plain ridiculous but I’d still keep Undisputed, Unified, RING, Lineal and Emeritus. I think they’re sensible but the rest need binning.

Is this global belt really being considered a world title or is it just another belt like the silver and diamond belts?

I’m sure I read the WBO Global champion was Usyk.

It’s not one you defend. Kinda like the WBO Super. Get’s given to you after a certain amount of time or whatever other excuse they can give.

I need to know when we have the WBO PLAID belt. You know it's serious when we've gone plaid.

I wish people would just stop acknowledging any of these belts. Even the so called "Main" one. Just look at the rankings, and who is the #1 guy in the division. That's who the Champ is.

Not even close. Boxing has more belts than any other combat sport by a wide margin. Hell there's probably more belts in Boxing than there is in ALL of Professional Wrestling.

It's pathetic and is ruining the sport as more and more top fighters just don't fight each other. Dilution.

It's especially frustrating when you have guys that are under the same promotional banner, and just inexplicably don't fight each other.

Like Gary Russell vs Leo Santa Cruz or Errol Spence vs the other Champs at 147. It's just ridiculous, and there's really no excuse for it.

The excuse is greed, however; the short term money generated is having a longer term degradation of the sport itself.

Makes me wonder how far the organizations can go? What if the WBC, IBF, and WBO started following the WBA by making a regular, super, and interim title? Then you would have 12 world titles per division. At what point would boxing websites, media, promoters, and fans stop recognizing these belts?

I have no idea why they already haven't.

4 Champions per division is already 3 too many as is.

They should just get on with it and make a different belt for all in their top 15.
