Canelo Could Headline in Mexico in 2019, Says De La Hoya
Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya is determined to stage an event in Mexico, with Canelo Alvarez headlining a card at Estadio Azteca in 2019.
At the start of the year, De La Hoya plans to sit down with Mexican authorities and venue officials, for a possible December event.
Canelo is now scheduled to return on May 4th in Las Vegas, as part of Cinco De Mayo weekend.
And then he intends to fight in September, for Mexican Independence Day weekend.
De La Hoya loves the idea of ending the year with Canelo making his big return to Mexico in a stadium fight.
"The truth is it's music for my ears, the Estadio Azteca and Canelo Alvarez, it sounds nice. It sounds nice and now it can be made a reality, with DAZN, with this new digital platform, it can become a reality," said De La Hoya to ESPN Deportes.
"We are going to talk about it after this fight. After the festivities and everything we are going to talk to the Mexican government, with (Emilio) Azcárraga so that this great fight takes place in the Azteca Stadium."
Mexican promoter Oswaldo Küchle said talks have already begun with Canelo's promoter to make it viable.
On the subject of fighting at the Azteca in 2019, Canelo was cautious, but said he was proud to fight in Mexico.
"I really do not know how things stand. But as I said, for me it's always an honor to fight in Mexico. I'm proud to fight in my country, anywhere, be it the Azteca Stadium, any other place, for me to fight in Mexico is an honor, it's pride, it makes me feel very proud," Canelo said.

Gilberto Zurdo Ramirez vs. Saul Canelo Alvarez at Azteca Stadium for the WBO-Supermiddleweight Championship!
Sounds classic!
Make it happen, at full supermiddle this time please. I'm sure ramirez would love to make the weight once more for this before stepping up to light-heavy.

Would be a good fight.. Best fight to make and would really bring Zurdo out more mainstream..adislav123 wrote: ↑17 Dec 2018, 09:29 Gilberto Zurdo Ramirez vs. Saul Canelo Alvarez at Azteca Stadium for the WBO-Supermiddleweight Championship!

It's a fight I would like to see but doubt will happen. I know TR and GBP came together to have Loma vs. Linares and said they woudl work together to make big fights.. But now GBP are with DAZN and TR obviously with ESPN.. One will want to have 100% rights on this fight..
Also Canelo said he doesn't want to fight a fellow Mexican going forward in his career.

Zurdo is not great in general and not a hard puncher in particular. Canelo can take him out with body shots.

Of course he would.boxing_rocks wrote: ↑17 Dec 2018, 12:00 Zurdo is not great in general and not a hard puncher in particular. Canelo can take him out with body shots.
Ramirez would break down & start sobbing from the internal pain inflicted by those supernatural pandemonic (sic) bonebreaking, kidneysquishing, liverquenching, heartstopping & soulsnatching bodyshots!
Canelo is the "extraspecial bodypuncher", he places them so powerful & merciless exactamente on the spot, no man can survive those hands landing on his inner organs!
They wince, go down sqeeking & squeeling, begging the mighty canelo for mercy.
Canelo is a one of a kind megamonstrous bodypuncher!
Never seen before that men take knees from bodyshots. Unheard of!
Canelo is the new breed, his punching to the body is transcending the sport. an unfelt intensity of hurt & pain from livers, kidneys & solarplexi is awaiting his future victims.
How golovkin left the ring alive not internally bleeding to death, neither flinch an eye nor wiggle with the ears is still an unsolved medical mystery. He should have not survived that night given the bodyshots he had to absorb.

GGG can take a head and body shot. People should give him more credit. He’s another animal that keeps on coming.adislav123 wrote: ↑17 Dec 2018, 19:33Canelo is the new breed, his punching to the body is transcending the sport. an unfelt intensity of hurt & pain from livers, kidneys & solarplexi is awaiting his future victims.boxing_rocks wrote: ↑17 Dec 2018, 12:00 Zurdo is not great in general and not a hard puncher in particular. There is video of them sparring. Zurdo was beating the piss out of Canelo. Canelo wouldn't win.boxing_rocks wrote: ↑17 Dec 2018, 12:00 Zurdo is not great in general and not a hard puncher in particular. Canelo can take him out with body shots.

From when was the video? Pre or post juice?Mexi-Box wrote: ↑17 Dec 2018, 21:01There is video of them sparring. Zurdo was beating the piss out of Canelo. Probably pre because I think Zurdo was still a prospect at the time. I can't find the longer version anymore. I just checked and they have a smaller version now that's set on a loop, I think.oogiebe wrote: ↑17 Dec 2018, 21:03From when was the video? Too bad. Ramirez is so much bigger than Canelo, it'd be interesting if he could use his size to keep Canelo off. I doubt it after seeing Canelo the other night...he looked downright scary.
Re: Canelo Could Headline in Mexico in 2019, Says De La Hoya
Fielding doesn't equal Ramirez...two completely different fighters. I understand the 'freshness' of the awesome display Canelo put on the other night, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.adislav123 wrote: ↑17 Dec 2018, 19:33Of course he would.boxing_rocks wrote: ↑17 Dec 2018, 12:00 Zurdo is not great in general and not a hard puncher in particular. Imagine for a second that it was Zurdo/Fielding. Fielding would've went to the damn hospital. Zurdo is a great bodypuncher too, very underrated. I'd love to see that fight in Mexico. It'd be a war for sure. Zurdo is all heart. Guy almost stopped Hart with one-hand.oogiebe wrote: ↑17 Dec 2018, 21:12Too bad. I go back and forth on Canelo v. Zurdo. Ramirez is so much bigger...I'd love to see it.Mexi-Box wrote: ↑17 Dec 2018, 21:16Imagine for a second that it was Zurdo/Fielding.
