To make this interesting, how would Dick Tiger fare against the following middleweight fighters in his era whom he never fought between champions and contenders?
Paul Pender
Rodrigo Valdez
"Baad" Bennie Briscoe
Tony Mundine
Jean-Claude Bouttier
Luis Manuel Rodriguez
Tom Bogs
Denny Moyer
Stanley "Kitten" Hayward
George Benton
Who would Tiger beat and which of these opponents would give him a good fight?

Re: Dick Tiger vs the following fighters
He would defeat them all except:
Rodrigo Valdez and Luis Rodriguez. Valdez would be a tossup for me.
Rodrigo Valdez and Luis Rodriguez. Valdez would be a tossup for me.

I'd like to see him have a go with Benny Briscoe! Briscoe was ALWAYS a great watch!

Re: Dick Tiger vs the following fighters
I can see Benton giving him fits if he applied a little more movement but ultimately Tiger might just punch through his defense.
I think Rodriguez would have boxed circles around Tiger. It's a shame he got stiffed in the Griffith fights because he'd have probably got the shot at Tiger and been champion again there and he'd be remembered historically as he should have been rather than a guy that was underrated and gave Griffith "problems".

The match up between Dick Tiger and Luis Manuel Rodriguez would be a good match up at middleweight as they fought in the same era, but never fought one another and both are members of the International Boxing Hall of Fame. If Tiger could out-counter Rodriguez he must cut him off the ring and pressure him with his swarming style to take a 15 round decision.

Not sure countering Rodriguez would really be the course of action he'd take. He'd simply just have to hope he can catch Rodriguez in exchanges and pin him down long enough but the Rodriguez of the early/mid 60's (a.k.a his prime) had an iron chin and he'd just be too fast and active for Tiger to truly get set or get a proper look. He'd be resetting all night and Luis would be punching and moving.scorpio83 wrote: ↑19 Dec 2018, 05:58 The match up between Dick Tiger and Luis Manuel Rodriguez would be a good match up at middleweight as they fought in the same era, but never fought one another and both are members of the International Boxing Hall of Fame. I love both of these fighters and both were among the absolute best at what they did but it's kind of like paper-scissors-rocks. Rodriguez being the paper, Tiger being the rock. Rodriguez by comfortable decision. Styles make fights.
Re: Dick Tiger vs the following fighters
Depends on how Valdez fought him. Valdez was more versatile but he was easily drawn into shootouts. If he did that with Tiger its a tossup. If he moved more, which wasnt really normal for him, hed have a better chance. Its just a stylistic matchup. Just because Valdez did well against Monzon doesnt mean anything in a Tiger fight. Monzon and Tiger were nothing alike either physically or stylistically.
Re: Dick Tiger vs the following fighters
Rodriguez was all wrong for Tiger. Hed box rings around Tiger and make him look ordinary and on the rare occasion Tiger closed the distance Rodriguez would outwork him. Tiger was very one dimensional. It was a heck of a dimension but he was limited compared to Rodriguez. The only advantages he had over Luis were strength and punching power and those would have made a difference.chrisjs1985 wrote: ↑19 Dec 2018, 11:26Not sure countering Rodriguez would really be the course of action he'd take.
