Have lifted on and off for over 15 years..
Far from an expert, but like to think I'm far beyond the average schmuck.. at least in terms of knowledge.
Am curious what your thoughts are on volume for progression... sets/reps per bodypart per workout and per... let's say, week.
Once read a study that said something to the effect of.. if done right, you can get 90%+ effectiveness from 3 sets per workout per body part.. as you can going beyond 3. I've had folks swear by going "balls to the wall" superset per body part.. and following that up with pure volume high rep... Basically, in a nutshell, I've heard about every theory.
How do you feel?
It really does depend on your goals. If health and fitness or wellbeing are you main goals then your workouts should basically include the least amount of work possible that gets you that result. If you want to be SUPER STRONG or SUPER FIT or anything above and beyond that general health and fitness then it will take much more. My own personal training is very intense and much more difficult than 99% of the world will need since my goals are competitive in nature. But in my opinion the best workouts done are those that lead to steady increases in muscle along with decreases in fat that allows the exerciser to build a better quality of life. These people will never be jacked, shredded, ripped, the strongest, etc etc etc but they will love long healthy lives in most cases.
