Lee Selby at Lightweight

All the talk of Frampton-Warrington got me thinking about what's next for Lee Selby. He's said he plans on moving up 2 weight classes to lightweight. Just checked his Twitter and he's RT'd a couple of ITV/PBC tweets which would suggest that's where he'll be fighting.

What do we think of the move up in weight? He has seemed to seriously struggle to make featherweight for a while to be honest, which have reflected in his performances.

Has he got another world title in him? Lomachenko has the WBA & WBO belts. Garcia I believe still has the WBC & IBF belts - not sure if they're about to become vacant when he challenges Spence or if he'll keep hold of them in case he loses.

In Britain we've got Luke Campbell, Anthony Crolla and Ricky Burns who have fought at world level. Lewis Ritson fought for the European last time out. Cordina will be looking to step up to European level next year. Selby vs those guys of any interest?

Why pass Superfeatherweight? Lightweight may find him outsized too much. He's 31 now and maybe he just can't make featherweight any longer.

I think making 130 would've affected his performance as well tbh mate. I think he'll be a lot more comfortable at 135. Wether he can make any noise at the weight remains to be seen though.

I wouldn't mind seeing how he gets on against someone like Linares after he's settled in at the weight.

He said he didn't think the extra 4lbs would have made enough of a difference in an interview I watched before. Which really makes you realise how much of a struggle it must have been to make 126. Said he's ripped at 135 and from there he's just depleting himself basically.

Linares is a good shout. We've seen before that he's got no problem coming over here, think his last fight was at 140 though, not sure if he plans on going back down. Just had a quick look through the BoxRec rankings and for his first fight back I can see them going with someone like Edner Cherry or Tony Luis. Maybe that Yordan that Crolla just boxed. Didn't watch that fight so no idea what he's like.

good starting point would be the lad who beat ritson and go on form there.

I always banged the drum for Selby being the best of the lot (quigg, Frampton, galahad, warrington) but I cant see his comeback amounting to much. never a good sign when a fighter is so inactive after his first loss.

Even if he wants to top the rankings in the UK, he has to get past Ritson and Campbell. I'm not sure he can. Saying that, I'm sure there are good fights out there for him at LW, with careful matchmaking.
