Recently Emmanuel Navarette beating Isaac Dogboe was a surprise to me.

That unheard of African dude that blasted out Sam Eggington in 2 was a surprise.

There are probably bigger ones I'm forgetting.

Navarette was the first fight that came to mind, probably because it just happened. Now I'd say HBO leaving boxing is the biggest upset.

Alvarez over Kovalev is a good shout. Officially Fury didn't beat Wilder so it can't count as upset of the year. Not sure it would've been seen as an upset necessarily anyway as a lot of people thought he could win the fight.

Donaire over Burnett. Burnett was ahead on scores and injured his back. It's weak, but it's all I got!

Yeah, agreed...not too many surprised posters here. I think the fight was even money.

That gives Maurice Hooker two upsets in 2018, both of them on his opponent's home turf. :box:

Winning the title from Flanagan in Manchester, then his first defense against Alex Saucedo in Saucedo's hometown of Oklahoma City.

I can't recall the names but that amateur American stand out getting his ass whipped in his pro debut on dazn was shocking.

I'd still say Alvarez-Kovalev. Maybe the signs were there, maybe EA was being a little undervalued, on the other hand fewer than 5% of the people here were picking him to pull in off (based on PTBF anyway). Unless there's a bigger one nobody has mentioned yet I don't think there's a better candidate.

Some lesser upsets not mentioned here yet:

Chisora-Takam
Dogboe-Magdaleno

Does Arroyo-Cuadras count as an upset?

Zlaticanin. He was -11,000. I judge upsets off betting odds.

Tyson was -4200 against Buster. So this an almost 3x bigger upset at the sportsbooks.

Hooker beating Saucedo wasn’t even an upset. Betting Flanagan at I think +650 was.

Not a major upset like the Flanagan win but still an upset according to numerous websites:
https://www.forbes.com/sites/joshkatzow ... 9b0bae25eb
According to Bovada, Saucedo is -175, meaning you’d have to bet $175 to win $100, while Hooker is +145, which means you’d win $145 with a $100 wager.
