Canelo vs. Fielding had audience of 26 million viewers

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

..... in Mexico.

Saul Canelo Alvarez’s fight last Saturday night against British fighter Rocky Fielding at Madison Square Garden in New York brought in a massive audience of 26 million viewers on TV Azteca and Televisa in Mexico, according to ESPN Deportes.

10 million boxing fans watched the Canelo-Fielding fight on Televisa, and 16 million watched the fight on Azteca. The 26 million viewers was short of the 34 million that witnessed Canelo’s rematch against former IBF/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin three months ago on September 15 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Just 8 million fewer boxing fans viewed the Canelo vs. Fielding fight last weekend. That showed how popular Canelo has become. When he can bring in huge viewing stats against an unknown fighter like Fielding, it’s a strong indication of the popularity that Alvarez now has.

It would be an unreal number.
Joshua is a God in his country as Canelo is in his.
I'm more curious what Wilder would do on prime time on ABC NBC CBS or FOX
He doesn't have withers popularity but being on say 8pm on one of the 4 major free to air networks what we he do.

2015 vs. Duhaupas was on NBC - averaged 2.2 million, peaking at 3 million viewers

2016 vs. Arreola was on FOX - averaged 1.45 million, peaked 2.54 million viewers

2017 vs. Washington was on FOX - averaged 1.76 million, peaking at 1.86 million viewers (went head-to-head with a Bulls-Cavs game on ABC and a Flyers-Penguins game on NBC on Saturday night. The NBA game, in which LeBron James didn’t play against former teammate Dwayne Wade, peaked at 2.43 million viewers. The NHL game peaked at 1.91 million viewers)

The rest were on Showtime.

I do believe he'd get much better figures now. Even though they're not that bad. Only Keith Thurman has done better on free-to-air..

We'll see more success with PBC on FOX next year. :TU:

I Would be more interested in the number of subscribers it brought into DAZN and the viewing figures on the night.

Wilder won't get near that number even if it's free.

If he was a Mexican HW, he would have gotten that number at least quadrupled.

Oh yeah, for sure. Mexicans pretty much carry a lot of the sport in the States.

That's a lot of dissatisfied people for a crappy undercard and a mismatched main event
Pretty much every televised York Hall show I've seen this year put on better, more competitive, fan friendly fights free to air.

No, I'm pretty sure 90% wanted to watch Canelo and were perfectly satisfied. You're talking about casuals that probably only watched two Canelo fights this year. Hell, most probably only watched this one fight. Probably 99.9% of that number never even heard of Fielding.

I guess your right. I felt a bit robbed even though I paid about half what they were charging in the USA. Did you enjoy it?

I enjoyed it. It wasn't fornicating Tevin Farmer at the very least. Not sure what there wasn't to enjoy. I was screaming at the television for Fielding to stay out of the inside. Any fight that gets a rise out of me is automatically worth it.

It’s basically just casual Mexicans watching the fight.

Just like how 10m casual Brits would watch Joshua if he was on BBC.

 haha, classic mate!
I was shouting "use yer bloody jab!!" to no effect
It was the dissapoining undercard that got me, I had the full coverage and it was cringeworthy how low guys were being matched up. When I pay me hard earned bucks, I expect more than one good fight.

Uh, you actually watched the undercard!? Okay, now I know why you are pissed. I was surfing the web and reading up on forums rather than watch that monstrosity. Tevin Farmer does not belong on television unless he's fighting someone that'll whoop his ass like Davis or Berchelt.
