Hearn using us as pawns

Post by dalcumly »

I've no love for FW but as he'd already announced his show for tonight well in advance ( by the way not a PPV event). Hearn's much later announcement of his show (also not PPV worthy) was nothing more than a cynical ploy to disrupt the Manchester event financially, as part of his campaign against FW.
Whatever else Hearn thinks he's doing, he's abusing the trust of boxing fans in the UK. To ask the public to choose between 2 PPV events 3 days before Christmas is just selfish. One PPV was bad enough but to add to the situation is a disgrace.
It looks like the Hearn show is winning the pre-publicity war as far as the general media is concerned, and I can imagine Hearn sitting drinking his coffee this morning with a permanent sneer on his face.
FW is just as bad, and the two of them deserve each other, but its us , mere mortals, who are caught in the crossfire. They are killing the 'fatted calf' before our very eyes.
Professional boxing cannot survive without the public , live and on TV, paying up , and attracting the businesses buying advertising space because of the numbers.
My only consolation is the fact that all the 'big' promoters eventually fade out - Solomons, Levene, Duff, FW, Hearns ...........

Yeah PPV sucks, especially when the card doesn’t even come close to warranting it. But the only way to stop it is to not buy.

Exactly mate I can never understand why people moan and then go and buy that is defeating the object of moaning in the first place ffs

Sky should just have a monthly subscription boxing channel. Maybe offer the big events as a PPV to non subscribers. I'd probably buy in to that. Say a tenner a month just for that channel. 120 a year. That actually more than what you'd pay buying every PPV but if they concentrated on their content and produced more quality shows along with the bigger shows I wouldn't mind paying out.

Agree totally.

Christmas week expense of a PPV is out of order and naughty. Many are under financial strain at this time of the year and do not need this adding to it. Additionally, as a parent, I work my fcking nuts off all year and wish I had more leisure time with the family, as a self employed person in a tough economic time, I have not had many days off this year. Was looking forward to finishing work on the Friday (yesterday) and getting into the Christmas spirit as a family - trip out to see some lights, food out, watch a Christmas film, play a board game yadda yadda and instead, I am p1ssed off that I have boxing on the first day off.

I will record them and watch later when everyone is bed. It is just inconsiderate. Exploitation of us and no thought of situations as I do not I am alone in having a family wanting (and deserving) to kick off our break today and tonight

Cuz at the end of the all moaning, we’ll still boxing fans and still want to watch the fight.

Eddies true colours are slowly surfacing since the dazn deal I feel. The apples and pears routine has worn thin and fans actually want to see a bit more quality product. He's obv overstretched himself a bit, and this move is a right pisstake.

I also don't like the way he pretends the lineal title means nothing, by saying that he's basically admitting he has zero respect for the fans opinions. It does amuse me that fury has done his mind games routine on an actual promoter tho

Still, you have to have principles. I hardly ever buy PPVs these days, we have way too many of them and mostly they don’t deserve it. Whyte-Parker? Brook-Gavin? Bellew-Cleverly? Total fvcking joke.

Lineal title means nothing to me, to be fair. In fact, neither do any of the world titles. I just like competitive fights, couldn’t give a toss who holds a belt and who doesn’t.

I was always supportive of Hearn and what he is doing for boxing, I love boxing I don't care if its on Sky, BT, ITV heck evens streamed on Youtube via IFL but what he is doing today makes my stomach turn....

Putting a rematch on PPV whilst another PPV which was announced months ago is a very low move and that sort of energy comes back to bite you in the derriere!

I agree with one part of your post, in that neither card is a ppv event.

Sky will smash the bt ppv tonight.. that’s a fact. Frampton and josh both big ticket sellers but not a ppv draw. If quigg v frampton done poor on sky this bt card is in big trouble. I also think neither card is ppv worthy and neither have shown a free competitive nights boxing in six months

He did a lot of boasting about DAZN.
Since then Canelo has taken a huge amount of money from them and Hearn hasn't delivered any of his marquee signings.
He alienated Shelly Finkel with his juvenile comments and Joshua walked away from a massive purse, leading to a huge rise in the popularity of Fury.
He is sacrificing Brits for DAZN and further weakening domestic cards (not one regular world title fight in over a year).
He needs to get his head (and Kugan's tongue) out of his ar$e.

Josh has all the Leeds fans across the country buying, Quigg never had that fan base.

If Eddie really wanted to go after Frank and the BT PPV. He should have bit the bullet and put his card on for free.

That would have started a real war with Warren. Which us fans would only benefit from.

Prince Hearn is far too greedy and gluttonous for that kind of thing

When Warrington was with Sky his viewing figures when he headlined were low compared to other Sky shows (much lower than some).

Whilst his fanbase has grown since then I can’t see 250,000 Leeds fans buying the fight particularly when there’s a competing show that’s had far more publicity.

It might inadvertently work out for us if both cards have poor ppv figures.

Might make both promoters rethink their future strategies if the ppv cash cow dries up. Probably wishful thinking on my part though. Unfortunately.

Warrington does great with ticket sales, less for an overall following
