Subject event (Texas Jack Burke v Charles Slusher) is reported to have taken place on October 10th in The National Police Gazette Issue dated 28 OCT 1893. (boxrec has it listed as October 9th)

The bout was reported in several papers on Oct. 10, so the date of Oct. 9 is likely correct.
