Mundine : I have earned a rematch with Jeff Horn

Post by Redback Rasta »

Anthony Mundine somehow wants a rematch against Jeff Horn

“Now having looked back at the fight, I really feel he caught me early, through god’s will. I truly believe god has put me in this predicament for a reason.

“I feel that I have enough runs on the board to warrant an immediate rematch because I know that wasn’t me. The fans know it wasn’t me either. I feel he got lucky.

“Good luck to him and his team, but I feel I’ve got the runs on the board in my career to warrant a rematch, I truly believe I can win.

“A lot of the experts and doubters have me as a massive underdog, but for me to go out as I want to go out; I’ve earned that. I would like to try and have another fight with Jeff definitely.

“I’ve had a great career. Jeff proved tonight that he was a better man … with a better shot,” Mundine said in the ring.

“(He) got me with a shot early. That’s the next generation, man, so I pass it onto them.”

But as he’s done his entire boxing career, Mundine is using his mouth in the hopes of once again promoting a big fight.

“For me it’s not about being over,” he said.

“I know what I can do. For me, age isn’t an issue, it isn’t about the age it’s about the desire and dedication and commitment.

Someone tell Mundine it's Christmas, not 1st April.

Geeze Choc loves the dollars doesn't he. I reckon there should be an age limit put on professional boxers. I know there are a few boxers who can fight in their forties and compete but it shouldn't be allowed. I think the damage it can bring to the fighter and the sport in general outweighs any individual rights arguments.

If we have eneough incedents such as the recent Adonis one there will be more support for a blanket banning of the sport from the public and the politicians. Better the sport self regulate and set an age limit for being able to compete. Just my opinion.

He’s delusional. I thought he would’ve went much better in their 1st fight but to be taken out so quick, I think he’s done. If it went a few rounds and he was in the fight I could understand. Been a fan of his as a boxer but enough is enough.

loads of young men get seriously hurt too and most older fighters dont end up like adonis, you can set tougher standards but imo should still look at it case by case

Yesterday's man is suffering from "what's worse than being talked about? Not being talked about!" syndrome.

it's easy to criticize Anthony, god knows I have and I regret much of it, but I wish he would retire and start the rest of his life. Heard him on TV yesterday sort of saying he will fight some bums to 'earn a rematch with Horn. he is sitting in the top 15 in earnings of ALL fighters in history, That should be enough for a PRO. A walk up start to the Aussie Hall of Fame awaits.
In the Army we used to call what he is doing now as 'Chasing Ground', you never catch up Anthony

Even an aged, very ring rusted Hoppa lasted longer than Anthony Mundine in his curtain call.

Time for the Man to enter the room of mirrors and have a real good look!

The long farewell goodbye has ended with The Man finally hanging up his gloves in the below story from the Daily Telegraph..
Anthony Mundine officially retired during the week.

In what can only be described as one of sport’s biggest ironies, given the hallmarks of his career were exaggerated self-promotion and over-hype, Mundine retired without even a statement to say he was done.

Mundine was in and out of negotiations with MainEvent about having one more fight, and possibly going out a winner, before hanging up the gloves for good, but the on-again, off-again fight was finally called off after Mundine struggled to find a worthy opponent, which would have made it hard to sell as a pay-per-view.

While Mundine polarised the country throughout his career nobody can deny he was one of the country’s biggest sports stars for more than two decades.

I remember Ron (Won) Casey claiming Tony Mundine was caught cold against Luis Rodriguez. Truth was that Tony was knocked cold by Luis.

True. He can go off and enjoy his millions now, hopefully he has invested wisely.

It is well reported he hasn't. But I don't think he has wasted it all. The main thing is he has stopped getting hit in the head.

This reminds m of a friend of mine who said after Anthony's father, Tony Mundine was KOed by Luis Rodriguez in the first round of a fight that Tony would have won if the fight went longer.

He had the same strange idea of how boxing works as young Anthony.

The 44 year old Mundine now faces the 43 year old John Wayne Parr on 30th November at Cbus Super Stadium, which is the home ground to the National Rugby League's easybeats the Gold Coast Titans.

What is the point of this matchup except to massage Mundine's ego that he is not yesterday's man.

I pray that Choc hangs them up after this bout. He's taken too many punches.
