Why are so few open to the idea of Dillian Whyte being the 2nd best heavyweight?

Post by Frazier71 »

Better than Parker and Chisora through victory
Mostly already seen as just above Pulev and Miller(I think?)
Better than Povetkin and Ortiz through these two decline/age

AJ aside that leaves Wilder and Fury.

Wilder he could well ragdoll then knock out. And 2018/19 Fury who knows where he is? For me their fight was more about Wilder being exposed than Fury returning to #1 or #2. status.

I don’t think he’s as good as Povetkin or Ortiz. I’m not even sure Whyte is better than Pulev, considering how much he struggled with Chisora over 2 fights.

Wilder would annihilate him at some point, and Fury would box his head off. Joshua has already comprehensively beaten him up & knocked him out.

So yeah, definitely not 2nd best heavyweight for me.

Going life and death with a 34 year old Chisora twice is not the signs of the 2nd best heavyweight. I mean come on Chisora is 4-4 in his last 8 fights and the biggest win of his career is Takam.
I rate Whyte 6th. He's good and will give any heavyweight a decent fight but he's not the 2nd best

I also wouldn’t be at all surprised if Parker beat him if they had a rematch.

I like the thought of him smashing AJ, Wilder and Fury, unlikely as it is.

He seems the most likable.

Yeah I’d actually have Parker as favourite. He was unfortunate in that he had his brain scrambled by the clash of heads and the officiating was a little relaxed in some ways.

Exactly this. Fury beat a younger chisora with ease an made him retire. To say Whyte is somehow 2nd best makes no sense to me at all. Struggling against chisora shows Whyte is not elite level. It doesn't make chisora a better fighter

It depends how you define 'elite' I guess. A lot of people had Parker to win vs AJ and considered him elite. Whyte beat him. He's better than Breazale, slightly better than Pulev IMO, I'd consider him number 4 but I think Wilder takes him out eventually, AJ KOs him again and Fury wins pretty much ever round

Because he isn't. Watching chisora tee off on him in parts during their fight convinces me that Joshua will leather whyte with relative ease.

It's just based on logic. Whilst I'm fully in agreement that styles make fights and upsets are always possible the logic is probably based on a number of factors.

1. Joshua knocked Whyte out a few years ago.
2. Whyte didn't appear to be miles above Chisora in their two fights.
3. Fury and Joshua both beat Klitschko in the past
4. Fury beat Chisora fairly easily
5. Wilder knocked out Ortiz
6. Wilder and Fury just fought a competitive bout.

Therefore most people see Joshua, Wilder and Fury as a clear top 3.

Although I accept completely that fighters improve, decline, find extra motivation etc so nothing is set in stone

Stylistically, I'd like to see Miller-chisora now. I think that would produce fireworks as they both fight in pretty much the same way.

He's not better, than Povetkin. Probably not better, than Ortiz as well. He just has overall better resume, than Ortiz.

Yeh, Ortiz would probably beat anyone Whyte has beaten..

Just those boxers would have rather fought Whyte over Ortiz for financial reasons?
