George Groves - what next?

Heard nothing more since the Smith defeat but what of George Groves now? Waiting to find out if he would enforce the rematch clause against Callum Smith but that seems to have gone quiet.

Personally I'd like to see him v Smith again; he was beaten fair and square by the better fighter on the night but it was a close fight until the left hand that started the end. I'd like to watch it again.

I would like Groves to retire.
I think he will, barring another contest with DeGale which I believe he would win but I don’t really want to see.

Aside from whatever Canelo is doing, Groves was in the toughest SMW fight that could be made.
So he lost, at the highest level. But he didn't lose badly, and he isn't that old. I don't think a rematch is a good idea, but that doesn't mean there aren't a lot of good and winnable fights out there if he wants them.
If he want to retire, fine. He has doggedly achived a lot, entertained, and earned a lot over the years and I would not hold it against him.
Personally, apart from Smith and Canelo, I think he beats most in the division, even Zurdo- because he is a lot better than Hart.

I'd like to see him retire. He's made loads of cash, won a world title and been involved in some of the biggest fights of the past 10 years. What more could a fighter realistically ask for? His health.
He looked fleshy and old in the Smith fight.
Time to throw on a nice suit and do some punditry.

Don’t think Groves has that much quit in him, good body shots can be crippling.

In my opinion I think he retired before the Callum Smith fight, as soon as a boxer starts talking about retirement before a huge event like that, it's like they've already accepted they're time at the top is over.

If he does come back, Callum Smith isn't one for him to fight, a big name here in the UK is his best bet, A fight against Eubanks Jr. would be a good domestic event, a second match against James Degale is one that would benefit them both and I'd even consider Rocky Fielding to be a worthwhile match for him now both have been at the world level (admittedly differing world levels but still.)

Otherwise a big european name fight against names like Arthur Abraham or Juergen Braehmer would be ideal for a comeback fight to make a statement of intent to move back to the world level.

I think he's done now,had some punishing fights,he's young,wealthy and still sharp so i'd call it a day.There is money to be made still but he'll not be world champion again.

Unless he fancies beating Degale for a third time. But I think he'd be better to just keep the bragging rights on that one.

The appealing thing with the tournaments is no promotional obligations. Not trying to nitpick, just drunk and nitpicking. Lol, no chance there is a clause.

Don't know how to post a picture on here but I DM'd Joe Gallagher on Twitter who confirmed their WAS a rematch clause however the timescale stipulated to enforce it has now expired so no rematch.

I think he'll retire.
Still a lot of winnable fights out there and some possible decent paydays, but it would feel like he's playing it at now.
That said, good on him if he thinks he can get back to the top and prove us all wrong. He'd be a good name/SMW test for Canelo - could hardly blame him for taking that.
