Good and true points but at his size and reach 6′ 2½″ / 75″ Pavlik was a natural 168 pounder. He would probably outweight GGG by 10-15lbs.Perseus wrote: ↑28 Dec 2018, 09:50 This matchup has Fight of the Year written all over it.
Correct me if I'm wrong but my understanding is that GGG stays in shape between fights. He lives the life of an athlete at all times not just in training camp.
Pavlik never lived that life, he got in shape during training camp.
There is a difference.
For these hypothetical matches between two high level boxers if I have the above information I don't need a lot of analysis beyond that.
The boxer who lives the life of an athlete everyday is better prepared for a tough night than the one who does not.
I favor GGG in a fight of the year type event.

When I say fight of the year type event I mean it would not be easy.
Pavlik/GGG would be a great fight with both fighters taking a lot of punishment but GGG is better prepared to do that over 12 rounds, he has more left in the late rounds and wins a decision.

GGG would probably win bc of his boxing skills and working ethic but it would be a very hard battle.Perseus wrote: ↑28 Dec 2018, 11:08As did Jacobsapollo creed wrote: ↑28 Dec 2018, 10:33Good and true points but at his size and reach 6′ 2½″ / 75″ Pavlik was a natural 168 pounder. Re: GGG vs Pavlik
The Pavlik that lost to Martinez was broken-minded, unfocused: something happened to him after the Hopkins fight: the man probably thought he was schooled, or had deluded fans, or anything else; he wasn't the same anymore.
Good remarking that GGG's work-ethics would be a key factor, but give one like Pavlik the right entourage, and he will smash the world.

GGG is a great boxer. When he decided to box Canelo in their rematch, he outboxed him. Pavlik would have no chances against prime Golovkin.

When GGG chooses to hit and move like Lara and FMJ he's very good. The problem is that isn't his style which is a pity bc he has the ability to do it very good. Another important fact that many people are ingnoring is that Canelo was 28y/o in his peak of his prime and GGG was 35y/o past of his prime.boxing_rocks wrote: ↑28 Dec 2018, 11:30 GGG is a great boxer. Pavlik was too basic for Golovkin; this would be a re-run of the GGG-Lemieux fight.

He doesn't do it like Lara, FMJ or somebody else. Like many other ATGs, he has his own way. His style is very economical, so some fans can't even see what he is doing for example in his defense. Canelo was trying to press him but never had him on the ropes. That was a very effective economical defense.apollo creed wrote: ↑28 Dec 2018, 12:40When GGG chooses to hit and move like Lara and FMJ he's very good. True but also I saw in the rematch some glimpses of GGG hitting and then moving out of Canelo's range and I liked.boxing_rocks wrote: ↑28 Dec 2018, 13:26He doesn't do it like Lara, FMJ or somebody else. Probably a 60-40 to GGG. But not really sure. Kelly can really crack. If you'll see how Taylor crumbled in a round after dominating most of the fight. Also, Pavlik have issues with movers and crafty boxers, GGG is neither. He only broke his opponents will until they succumbed to his power.

Re: GGG vs Pavlik
Golovkin would be able to outbox Pavlik I figure. He'd have difficulties with him, but I think his greater skill would ultimately win out.
Re: GGG vs Pavlik
With all due respect, Lemieux is not in the same league as Pavlik... in his Canadian heydeys, I also thought Lemieux was hot stuff... by the time Rubio schooled him, his flaws were exposed unmistakably.Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑28 Dec 2018, 13:23 Pavlik was too basic for Golovkin; this would be a re-run of the GGG-Lemieux fight.
Pavlik is no hypejob... he might have had emotional, even psychological issues, I don't know, but GGG would need to push on those buttons ("psychological warfare", pressure-fighting...), because there's no way he could trade punches with Pavlik, dude.

That sounds veritable, altho I don't believe that GGG has already met a guy who hit as hard as Pavlik (the fashion in which he beat Taylor still impresses me)... Canelo came close-enough to that, but I can't picture how GGG would've reacted to such a big bad guy.Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑28 Dec 2018, 16:22Golovkin wouldn’t trade punches with Pavlik, in the same way he didn’t trade punches with Lemieux. Taylor's durability is just nowhere close to the level where GGG or Canelo are.Jacopodb wrote: ↑28 Dec 2018, 16:35That sounds veritable, altho I don't believe that GGG has already met a guy who hit as hard as Pavlik (the fashion in which he beat Taylor still impresses me)... Re: GGG vs Pavlik
Prime Pavlik was no joke and had good size. I think he would give GGG a run for his money similarly to Jacobs, but I think a prime GGG stops him late.
Re: GGG vs Pavlik
The Taylor that fought Pavlik was a little past-his-prime, but he was still Jermain Taylor in his early 30s... it wasn't the fact that Pavlik beat Taylor alone, it was the fashion in which he did it...boxing_rocks wrote: ↑28 Dec 2018, 17:02Taylor's durability is just nowhere close to the level where GGG or Canelo are.Jacopodb wrote: ↑28 Dec 2018, 16:35That sounds veritable, altho I don't believe that GGG has already met a guy who hit as hard as Pavlik (the fashion in which he beat Taylor still impresses me)... For instance, both the Taylor that beat Hopkins, and the Pavlik that beat Taylor, would expose GGG's evident flaws (how could anyone watch Golovkin's face after Canelo's care and claim that "Golovkin outboxed Canelo"... not even Charlie Z...), so: if the best versions of Pavlik and Taylor layed their hands on Golovkin, I'm afraid... so long, GGG...

Golovkin's skin is just sensitive. Yes, he clearly ouboxed Canelo and would easily do the same to Pavlik. Taylor would be brutally stopped.Jacopodb wrote: ↑28 Dec 2018, 17:19The Taylor that fought Pavlik was a little past-his-prime, but he was still Jermain Taylor in his early 30s... it wasn't the fact that Pavlik beat Taylor alone, it was the fashion in which he did it...boxing_rocks wrote: ↑28 Dec 2018, 17:02Taylor's durability is just nowhere close to the level where GGG or Canelo are.

I once had a boxing trainer (just the guy you think he should know better than you...) claiming that Hopkins had won over Calzaghe... by then, I'm psychologically prepared to hear and read anything about boxing.boxing_rocks wrote: ↑28 Dec 2018, 18:28Golovkin's skin is just sensitive. If GGG's skin is so sensitive, then he might easily lose for a cut over his eye against bad-ass Pavlik... If it isn't so sensitive, ol' Pavlik would make it look like it is...
...While a peaking Jermain Taylor would wear flat-footed, robotic Golovkin down like no boxer has done, yet.

If I ran this site, I’d find those 7 dipshiit and bar their IP Adress from ever connecting g to this site. In fact, then I’d go and call some family members, organize an intervention and make sure he’s smart enough to conduct himself in a society. Idiots
