He also didn't fight December 16th, as stated in the article, nor he fight Tex Cobb in January. How many times was that Weaver - Cobb fight scheduled and then cancelled?

Thanks for sharing that link.

That was around the time Tex Cobb got into a bar fight protecting a journalist buddy of his in Philadelphia
and someone broke his arm with a tire iron.

I remember where I was when I saw his stunning KO over Big John Tate in the fifteenth round. I was on an exchange concert living at the home of a very nice couple in Essex. Funny I haven't thought about that before. I was 17 and travelled from NY to London on my own! I jumped up and screamed as I had an affinity towards Hercules.

Mike Weavers does look like Carl Weathers who played Apollo Creed, but Weathers is taller than Weaver by an inch. Also, Weaver beat Tony Anthony by DQ after being hit after the bell in the first round on the undercard of the first Larry Holmes vs. James "Bonecrusher" Smith fight.

Weaver actually boxed an exhibition with Carl Weathers back when Rocky 3 was being filmed.

It was taped but Weaver no longer has a copy. Weathers was scared and ran around the ring. Weaver told him to punch and said "I wont hurt you" but Weathers didn't comply.

It's staggering to think that Holmes and Weaver had two fights 21 years apart.

That must be the longest time between an original fight and a rematch?

Out of all of the boxers I've spoke with over the years. 2 stand out as genuine and friendly.
Mike Weaver and Larry Holmes.
Both were very personal, polite and informative.
